Highest ever average attendance.

Nice representation, IIRC we would have averaged over 50,000 in 1949-50 if not for two relatively poor crowds once we'd bottled it. When you look at the vast spread in crowds of yesteryear it makes laugh at the empty seat brigade.
Aye as the average just before those 2 games was 50,445. Two crowds of 47,773 would have made the 50,000 average yet the average then ended up near that after the 2 low attendances.

Another average attendance link showing highest and lowest of season

The mags for comparison and the 2 below with us red and them black.

Best thing about that website is it includes the actual position in the attendance table, for example 16,000 is historically very poor but in 1985-86 it was the 12 best average gate in the county despite us coming close to dropping to the 3rd division. Also show just how much interest had waned prior to the 1973 fairytale, comfortably our worst seasons for support, relatively speaking,

I see that we were 3rd from 1998/99 (in Championship for that season anarl) for 4 seasons so I'm guessing Man Utd and Liverpool as the 2 above us? (without googling). I wonder who was 4th, Arsenal maybe?

Aye it was them as I've found links to the years

1998/99 we were 3rd overall but in League Division One (Championship now)

1999/00

We would have been 2nd in 2000/01 when we extended the North Stand but the mags nicked in as they'd finished their extension 🤣

Our highest ever average attendance was 47.785 in 1949-50 when we hoyed away the league title. Does any body know the official Crowd for Sunday as I can't find it anywhere?

I remember me mam gleefully telling me the tale of me dad being totally disgusted at our throwng away the title that season. Said he'd had enough and was never going back. A few months later at the first home game of the next season, "I'm off now. I'll see you after".

Season ticket holders are already at the front of the queue for the early rounds of any cup competition. If they choose not to attend then why should they get priority for later rounds. Sales for glamour ties should be something like :
Phase 1 - Season Ticket Holders with X BCP
Phase 2 - Anyone with X BCP
Phase 3 - Season Ticket holders who couldn’t be arsed to turn up for the early rounds
Phase 4 - Bandwagon jumpers.
Putting anyone with BCP who can't be arsed to turn up for league games ahead of loyal season ticket holders?

I can’t see Europa League games selling out unless we hit the last 16 orand beyond.
I’ve got to say it would be hugely disappointing if we didn’t sell out those 4 home games. After not seeing European footy for over half a century, combined with the effort the the players & owners have put in, it would be a bit embarrassing to say the least.

This. But will we?
Do a decent 4 game package with clever marketing.

This website has this seasons average as being 46,417.

49/50, 00/01 and 01/02 were higher than that - just.

Looks like it was the 4th highest in our history. If we have a season resembling this one next season then discussions must be taking place about an extension.

There have been a few erroneous figures thrown about such as 42k for Everton and 45k for another game. One of them will be in there.

Footywebpages is generally spot on - 46809, without Chelsea.
i think the extension will be nailed on for next summer.
but we will need to take a hit on potential concerts.
I think the europa league performances and crowds will play a massive part in those decisions too
Will be the east stand definitely. Will take capacity to about 60k

46824 here.

Anybody done the sums?!
Looks like a few sites have used a dodgy 41k figure for Everton. Board discussing it here...
