England World Cup squad news

They will be 3rd or even 4th choice when it’s a Hail Mary throw of the dice, it’s crazy that people think Madueke would be a better bet than Palmer or Foden. Saka has that spot nailed down and if he gets injured we should rightfully change the system as the next best isn’t good enough to be a starter.
Spot-on. Wingers are probably the most substituted players so Madueke will likely get decent game-time
Id have picked Palmer personally.

He's had a poor season due to injury- but if he were to find form he'd be a useful player to bring on if were chasing a goal. Direct and goalscorer- good passer from midfield.

This one baffles me a little
This. He did it from the bench in the last Euros and is a big game player. I’m also baffled lad there is probably only him and Saka who are capable of doing something from nothing. Now it’s just Saka, who will be doubled-up on.

England have always suffered from taking the so-called best players and then shoe horning them into a formation. Playing Paul Scoles out wide so we could fit in Gerrard and Lampard is the best example. Tuchel picks the formation or formations and is taking the players he thinks will best for that system and also the players who he likes the attitude of. I would have taken Maguire instead of Burn and Palmer instead of Rogers. But I am also happy that there is method in what Tuchel is doing. We would all take Wharton instead of Henderson but, again there is logic to it. When it came to the crucial moments Southgate was founding wanting. I have more confidence that when playing the real top sides Tuchel is a better manager.
I agree with Maguire ahead of Burn, but Rogers has been outstanding.

One of Foden or Palmer ahead of Manueke for me. Manueke can’t get in for Arsenal because of Saka.

Toney …… unbelievable selection

Our Thomas is building a team to compete in a specific competition. International football, as we all know, is a different beast to club football. Of one thing I am 100% sure; that Tuchel knows more about football than Maguire's mum. He is being ruthless in choosing players he believes will do him the job that needs doing. I have dreamed of Pep Guardiola being the manager with a fantastic array of talent at his disposal (Foden, Palmer, Bellingham, etc), but hard-nosed reality dictates that someone like Thomas will do a much better job. If we get to the semi-finals it will be a success, but whatever happens I am sure we will compete.
Fair enough.

Except i cannot for the life of me think of any situation that will arise on the field of play in this tournament where Dan Burn will be the best English player alive today who will be the man for that particular moment. Not one.

Plus saka has been a shadow of last season

I’d have had Gibbs-White ahead of all of them (other than Saka obviously)

Tbf I think klopp would be a good fit for the English style of play and the players we have available
I agree he would be a good fit, but I wouldn’t use that to take anything away from Tuchel. Both top tier managers who’ve shown they can handle tournament football at club level.

I totally get his reasoning in not taking numerous number 10s and having to try to get them in the team somewhere else, or having them sitting in reserve. So he's taking specialists.

But then he's taking a bunch of defenders who cover a number of positions but don't really seem to be in there on merit for them.

Tuchel wants wingers who dribble and run at people. Foden and Palmer are more inside forwards, but Kane will drop into that space anyway.

Toney is third choice striker but has excellent penalty record, which may be useful. As original poster said, Tuchel has a way of playing in mind and has selected accordingly. None of those left out are world beaters on current form.

Stones and Quansah are slightly strange but hopefully we won’t get injuries or suspensions.
