Southampton spying compendium thread

The reality is things will only get worse for Southampton with this, not better. The 4 pts will be based on the 2 league games they’ve admitted spying on (2pts a game) and if they end admitting to/being proved of spying throughout the season they will potentially get a serious points deduction for next season.

This is just a starting point imo. Could get really messy for them.

They’re appealing the punishment which is different to appealing the accusation which they admitted

Tie will go ahead and EFL will pray Boro lose to prevent a situation where Southampton make such a fuss that they end up going up because the punishment was too severe

We don’t know what they are appealing. They could equally appeal the process or a combination of all.

I do think the EFL having to discard with the rules they set themselves around the process could cause an issue for them even if Southampton agreed. Infact the obvious argument for their lawyers in my opinion would be to challenge the appeal process as the timeline is ridiculously short and they haven’t had the written judgment.

They likely don’t change anything long term but could tie the EFL down to having to delay the final.

that's something I was thinking about last night. I assume Southampton fans will just do the standard modern day fan thing of claiming victimhood, point their fingers at the EFL, say its all a disgrace, and be absolutely furious at Middlesbrough for reasons they can't even explain.

The reality is that they should be livid with their own club. The only people to have screwed over Southampton fans are Southampton.

Scanning through the SaintsFan forum, they've gone from many having a victim mentality to having a go and laying blame where it belongs . on the manager and the owners.

I think the realisation of what ACTUALLY happened this season has hit them.

Skullduggery ( not often you get to use that word ) is the cause . The Board and manager have brought punishment, shame and ridicule on their club with their cheating behaviour.

Absolute shame for the vast majority of their fans to be tainted by this.

I mean.. FFS, fancy Middkesbrough having the moral high ground over anyone.. 😲 🫨 🫢 😮

This. Eckert is also saying he didn’t realise it was illegal to spy, so why would he only spy on those three if he thought there was nothing wrong with it? They’ve been doing it for every game haven’t they?

As someone told me in an earlier reply - the two random teams they admitted spying on were both teams where the panel had messages to the analyst arranging the spying trip as evidence so they couldn't deny them.

So they fessed up to the 3 times they'd been caught.

It's like a 6 year old trying to get off with minimal punishment:

Mum:
Did you eat ALL of easter eggs? They've all disappeared?

Child:
No mum.

Mum:
But I actually caught you eating the smarties one?

Child:
Yes I ate that one but no more.

Mum:
And what about the milky way one and mars one? I found their wrappers in your bedroom?

Child:
Err yes I ate them too. But I PROMISE I didn't eat the rest, even though I thought it was okay to eat as many as I wanted I didn't touch the other ones.
Can I still eat some easter eggs mum?

No one is falling for that!

The fairest way would be just to award Hull a bye, and therefore announce them Play-Off winners.

The only reason the final is going ahead is due to how much money it makes for the EFL.

Re: The second point, every team in the division could make that point. Wrexham, for example, could make the argument that they should have been in the Play-Offs because Southampton had been cheating throughout the season.

I don't think it's disasterous that they've put Boro in the final in their place, it's not like it's made it a farce or anything, but I do feel for Hull - especially if they don't win.
But hang on - Boro are the ones who have been cheated here, not Hull. Boro might have beaten Southampton if they hadn't spied on them and knew all about their set pieces and tactics?

Back in the day - everybody was doing it (spying on the opposition) - Don Revie our ex-striker even had dossiers on the referees private lives.

SSN reported on the game and one or two facts were made apparent to me and it can be summed up by saying this whole sordid situation has benefitted nobody. Boro have now suddenly been thrusted into the game and will have had less training and preparation time than Hull and having expected Southampton they now have to prepare for Middlesbrough. All their research on the main Southampton players to look out for is now in the bin.

The sooner the game is over the better!
