Southampton spying compendium thread

Will the Southampton fans be compensated for hotels, tickets, flights etc etc?

It’s a bit harsh on them like to lose out
If the club’s owners have anything about them they need to come out and own this, apologise profusely to their fans and compensate them fully for travel expenses.

Thy should probably go further than that and offer to pay for current ST holders next season.

They need to come out and admit they fucked up massively, be really humble, ask for forgiveness from the football world an take their punishment.

If they have a ounce of humility and class, that’s what they’ll do.

I suspect they’ll do none of this.

Southampton fan made a good point on some random podcast that the playoffs is effectively a knockout cup tournament, if this happened in the FA Cup, Papa Johns etc you’d expect to be kicked out of the competition and that’s pretty much what they’ve forced the EFL to do.

It just seems completely random that they would send the spy to Oxford and Ipswich only.

Boro for the playoffs and what’s a stake - if it was a one off moment of madness, a stupid errors of judgement then fair enough (I’d still have kicked them out for this)

But Oxford United and Ipswich is very random. And both games they didn’t win. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is more to come.
Agree, very much doubt Ipswich & Oxford were the only games.

Coukd be the 4 points deduction is for this. If it comes out that there were more teams spied on, the points deduction could rise? If it was mostly that 20 game run in, then I’d even consider demotion!

This is probably screwed Southampton for years.

If culpable they will likely lose most of their sporting management.

The ownership will likely never recover so would be surprised if they are there much longer. Their fans understandable won’t forgive them.

Might well face years of legal action and compensation claims if the scale is as it’s suggested.

And now their own players at worst looking to sue them. At best there will be a mass of exits in the summer. Apparently exploring with the PFA breach of contracts which would enable them to leave for free.

Pretty much every aspect of the club set back years from this.
I wonder how endemic this behaviour is across the leagues. Hard to imagine Southampton are unique in this, and wonder if a few more examples come out now. Could be messy if so. Obviously they got caught (like we did in the 50s, on a different issue) and an example needs to be made.

Also, do we know if it is an explicit rule in the PL, or just the EFL?

Nothing wrong in doing it , but do it sneakily and run off if discovered.

If he actually said that to committee, then along with the picture of their tosser of a captain doing the binocular celebration ( along with abusing Ayling's stammer), then that was them fecked.

What is the basis of their appeal? They have admitted the charges , broke the rules put in place to ensure this “ tactic “ was illegal and even acknowledged it was systematic.
They had to be kicked out of the competition. The alternative would have been open season on rule breaches.

They're appealing against the sanction, claiming it's disproportionate.

So they have admitted to doing it in 3 other occasions.

Quite easy to admit it when you have lost the game to try and show you have not benefited from it.

If you are paying on Oxford then let’s face it, you are doing it for all the other teams.

Wouldn’t surprise me if they bugged the dressing room at the ground! 19 game unbeaten run during season!

Play with feathers, get your arse tickled.

This will impact them massively for years to come, like you say

Weird how they only admitted cheating against teams they didn't beat (apart from Boro). They'll have cheated many more times, they have got exactly what they deserve.
The ones they admitted to are the ones that messages had been found for. Otherwise I doubt they'd have admitted it. Oxford already said there was no CCTV on the day they were meant to be spying on them but the messages found meant they had to admit to it.

I said earlier in the week I thought the punishment would be expulsion from the playoffs if it was ‘only’ Boro.
League 1 for them if they were doing it all the time so I think you could be right.

Might be some negotiation today. Come completely clean and accept it and they’ll cap the punishment. Maybe 8 points? Fight it, threaten legal action etc and there will be a root and branch investigation into the entire club’s affairs.
