Southampton spying compendium thread

Totally agree. That's whuly Hull should just go up.

For all their spying and whatever, Boro had 2 bites of the cherry and really should have put the 2nd leg beyond Southampton, but they wasted their chances.

To me, the fairest thing to do now is to just award it to Hull and then they can take their time in whatever extra punishment they want to dish out to Southampton.
And why won't they do that? Because the EFL will earn loads from the play off final. Its a shambles and it didn't need to be. If this was a normal organisation they would have had a disciplinary hearing a few days after the offence took place. To take this long is unacceptable. As a neutral I would see Southampton being thrown out as fair or, alternatively, a big fine and points deduction sometime in the future. The thing that is so disappointing is how the lives of the fans is not even factored in. Southampton fans and Hull will have forked out the money and booked their travel/accomodation. It will be mayhem if that is now not played and its the fans who suffer. Imagine if we were in Hull's position.

I dont blame the EFL at all.

For something as significant as this with lawyers all over it, it has to be water tight.

Its not like the offense occurred 6 months ago. Its was less than two weeks. I think thats a reasonable timescale to get to a hearing of this legal magnitude.

Its just unfortunate that its happening in buildup to a play off final and not in middle of the regular season.

I don’t get the ‘Boro lost so promote hull’ argument. Boro lost after being spied on. And they lost in a very close tie to a late extra time goal. How can anybody say that the spying didn’t cause them to not win that first leg?
I do agree with the argument Soton should be kicked out. However, in the first leg Boro absolutely battered them so whatever scouting was done led to very little. Unfortunately for Boro they just couldn't score. Ultimately they still cheated and should be punished , which is quite ironic given it gave them no advantage at all in reality

The lawyers be milking every penny out of it too

Yes it’s a total mess.
Surely they could have said to Soton immediately in the aftermath - ‘you are accused of cheating, here’s the evidence and it’s pretty conclusive. What have you got to say?’

Soton have no defence, they were caught bang to rites. No denial. They’ve cheated for an advantage in an huge fixture and the league could and should have said there and then ‘you’re out’.

They shouldn’t have even played the second leg. Hull Boro final.

Too late for that now.

If it was in the middle of the season everyone would say they’ve dealt with it pretty quickly. It’s not like Swindon where it was obvious they played the player and just needed a punishment. Getting 3 or 5 people informed enough to sit on a panel in this short notice is incredible as they aren’t just sitting around doing nothing. If Southampton are found guilty the lack of admission should further enhance the punishment for me. Feel for Hull especially the fans, can’t really get excited.

So... Kick them out AND fine them to compensate Hull and Boro fans for their expenses.
I think if we were in Boro’s shoes we’d be making a case to say we were wronged. Their opponents cheated to gain an unfair and illegal advantage.

Maybe Boro should have refused to play the game, although they tried that once before and it didn’t end well for them!

There isn’t a chance they’re going to boot out Southampton and promote hull without playing a play off final. It’s like uefa sacking off the champions league final, just not going to happen at all. Hull will either play boro or they’ll play Southampton and if they do end up playing Southampton and Southampton win hull will be promoted anyway.

In fact now that I type the the EFL are probably better off letting hull play Southampton knowing hull are up regardless and they can punish Southampton after the event.
Thats likely to happen but Southampton even if they lose the final will have gained financially from cheating(i know not as much as getting promoted )and its unfair on boro! The EFL needs to grow a pair and ban Southampton from the final as im sure everybody who follows footy (except Southampton fans)would applaud it!

And of the hearing was today, not unreasonable to give the panel until tomorrow to issues their findings and reasons.
The panel will hear the case then discuss it to come to a conclusion, the Chair then has to write it up, all takes time. They can of course give the EFL a heads up before written award is published.

If game is postponed then I would as part of the award re-imburse all fans who are out of pocket including ‘admin’ fee on tkts to be paid by Southampton.

Give it to Hull. They've done nowt wrong and shouldn't be messed about like this.

Middlesbrough can take Saints to civil court or whatever..... although I have a sneaky feeling Boro will get awarded a 3-0 first leg win and Saints get a £500k fine and 15 point deduction for next season.

Looked at the " SaintsMarching " site. They're bleating on about the fact they deserve to be in the final....how they went on a 19 game unbeaten run which shows how good the team and Eckert are.

My question would be.. " How did an inexperienced manager whose previous managerial experience was 4 months in charge of the U21 team ( whose results are average ) become Mr. Fantastic with the 4th best win %age - 62.5% - across all 4 leagues,???? " ( Allegedly ) cheating German tw@t, that he ( Allegedly) is.

The Southampton fans and club seem to feel they're being victimised. GOOD!

I have seen a few comments about EFL making loads from the final but the money made from the final is hoyed into a pool and split off between the finalists (possibly other teams in league also as I can't be arsed to google exactly what happens to the match day revenues). If the EFL themselves lost some money from other things then it could be part of the fine against Southampton.

I wouldn’t unless they just promoted Hull.

Boro would have a right to appeal if that was the case. If Southampton cheated and it is proven, it should be a boro win. Over 2 legs they therefore won, and would be owed the chance to play for promotion. As the game is worth over 100m the EFL cant really risk them suing for loss of potential earnings, which any sane club would surely try for

Its like saying ''yeah they cheated, but you lost to the cheat so you are also out. Hardly fair really. Even though Boro really messed up by not taking chances in the first game

my mole in the room says they are inkling towards a coin toss

It’ll cost a fortune to postpone and reschedule a game at Wembley

No.

It's nothing to do with Hull. Southampton cheated before a game with Boro. So Southampton should be disqualified and that means Boro go to the final.
Whilst I agree -it does inadvertently affect Hull and their fans ..if Boro do go to the final -can’t see it being played this weekend ?
