Havertz Tackle a disgrace

Was it worse than Ballard having 1 strand of hair accident.y stuck between his fingers or was it worse than that not so clear handball by Mbuemo the other day.

Hell on in the match thread.

Rightfully so, its a blatant red card. A high, dangerous, studs up tackle raked right down the back of the calf and no red, yet Dan Ballard catches some twats braid by accident and hes serving a 3 game ban.

Its embarrassing really.

Say it quietly but it’s because football is corrupt, referees are incompetent, VAR is being badly administered and the FA have no grasp on it at all.

It is a hard job, very hard
Correct. They're also well paid professionals who should be able to perform accordingly.

The referee for Man United - got the decision wrong, got told this by VAR and advised to watch again, then doubled down on his wrong decision, resulting in Howard Webb having to put his tail between his legs and apologise to Forest.

Last night - the referee was 10 yards away with a completely unobstructed view. If he can't see that in real time from there, then he shouldn't be officiating. Also strange that he didn't consider that to be violent conduct but think it was when Ballard accidentally grabbed a couple of dreadlocks. Taking into a account that this is the ref who allowed himself to be humiliated by just standing there like a tit while the Chelsea players huddled around him, it's hardly a surprise to see him continuing to be weak towards the biggest clubs.

Thing is I can forgive a ref on the pitch. The game is quick they could possibly miss it or not see the severity of it in a split second. However for VAR to view it and still get it wrong is baffling
We’ve given VAR a get out clause though of this “clear and obvious” high bar. They’ll just claim it didn’t meet this made up high bar and claim they are correct every single time they choose not to interfere.

Refs and VAR are terrified of upsetting managers like Arteta because they’ll boot off in an interview and also fan bases like Arsenal and Liverpool will go all out on them over social media. Any mistake against those sides gets much more attention in the media than a smaller club like Burnley.

I struggle to believe there’s actually sums of money in brown envelopes floating around but I think there’s an unconscious bias and any close call they’ll chicken out of giving it against the top clubs.

They need to grow a pair. If you put a Burnley shirt on the lad making the foul and an Arsenal shirt on the player getting fouled that’s 100% gonna end in a red card.

it was better before the introduction of VAR.

granted, that is a very low bar. and it was far from perfect

but it was better, and the game of football as a whole was better.

Do you not think that was down to less scrutiny? Them officals pre var get dropped into today's game that are seen as been better than the current lot?

It's still subjective and they'll get things wrong with or without VAR. It's beyond frustrating but it won't change. Humans make mistakes

i don't know if the refs 10 years ago were better or worse than the refs today, its impossible to measure

but the game is worse now than it was 10 years ago because of the existence of VAR

most people could excuse the ref for missing that Havertz one last night, or at least the severity of it. he did give the free-kick. it happened very fast. pre-VAR it would have been replayed in slow motion at half time and Havertz would have been branded 'lucky to be on the pitch' and we would have got on with the game.
