Running Thread 2026

Anyone have issues with distances again , seen quite a few different distances on my Strava and a lot are under the 10k and half .

I was 9.97 when I went through the finish and ran past the medals to get my 10 😂

Well in, mate.

Enjoyed that today. Got three different times across phone, watch and chip of 1.58, 1.59 and 2.00.21, so think I’ll take an average and say I scraped under  either way, I was 10, 11 or 12 minutes quicker than London last month so that’s a positive, but the main takeaway was that I felt pretty good all the way round. Started right towards the back and paced myself through different stages about bang on. Forgot how deceiving the last mile or so is going up from the uni.

Need to think what my next goal/race/challenge is. Got a marathon sized monkey sitting on my shoulder telling me I should try and start increasing up to being able to do one of them but I dinnah. Half is absolutely the limit currently so feels like it would take some doing. Do want to try and break 50 for 10k as well so might focus on that first. But it’s nice to finally say I’m feeling enthused by it again. December, January and February were pretty awful and just never really felt it. But starting to get the bug back.

Well done, everyone!
Go on the website and check your actual time mate. I was only sent the gun time which is obviously slower by the time you cross the start and my chip time was a good 20 odd seconds quicker (37 mins dead).

Seen a few 9.97 on Strava mate, not sure what’s happened there

What races are coming up for the rest of the year in the north-east? Obviously GNR and then there's the Run Through 10K in November. Any more?

Races in NE England, Yorkshire and Cumbria !

Full list for you there but Durham City 10k in July and Middlesbrough 10k in August, both run by Events of the North who done Sunderland 10k yesterday.

Slept on it and been mulling it over this morning and decided it's probably for the best to drop out of the Windermere Marathon in 4 weeks time.

If I was to stop everything now and completely rest til the race my knee would likely be healed but I'd be totally out of fitness, and on the flip side if I just soldier on for a few weeks then put 42km in the hills through a dodgy knee I'm likely to do some serious damage.

Gunna plod on still for a couple weeks and get Hartlepool HM out the way with on the 31st, then get myself booked into a physio to start a proper recovery plan.

Bit disappointed to be dropping out but I'll get to start rehabbing a little earlier and with hotels, petrol, meals etc I'm gunna be saving £300+ so that softens the blow a lot.

Good stuff mate, similar I felt mostly comfortable and was steady away.
I'd like to do a marathon, but I didn't have the time to train properly for the half, got no chance at a marathon currently
The thought of doing a marathon filles me with dread - no way I could get through the first hour without giving up thinking I have another 3-4 hours of runnig, I found the first half of Sunderlan HM tough enough, its great that the second half is a much nicer run to kepp you going. Marathon...I'm out. MIght try to get under 55 for a 10K current best is 58:46 so seems doable if I can stay injury free.
Trail Outlaws put canny events on . Durham Trial 5k and 10 mile 31st May . Durham coastal 1/2 marathon 28th June .
ANyone done the durham coastal before? Any good, is it an easy route, looking to sign up for my second so have another goal in mind

Done the Durham Coast HM quite a few years back, it is not an easy route haha. Canny hilly and there's a few fairly short steep parts where you'll have to walk. Canny scenic though and if I remember correctly they offered a shuttle back to Seaham

I came up about 100m short on the half. Everyone ends up using the pavements which cuts a few metres off a lot of the corners, presumably the route is measured on the road. Ended up with strava not recognising a new PB because of it

Didn't think of this. Mine was 9.95. must have been taking the short corners at every opportunity 😂

I’ve done Durham coastal twice . Good race .The view's are great . Not the flattest course like and it mostly trial so it is challenging , especially if it rains .

Same here, the odd use of pavement instead of road, plus loads of people using GPS in a close location and alot of twists and back and forth along the route can confuse it.
It picked up the HM distance last year, and it was exactly the same route this years run.
At least when my time is on power of 10 it'll be logged as my PB, even if Strava doesn't recognise it 😀

Think if you log onto Strava desktop site you can click on the activity and get it to amend or recalculate the distance

Pics are up from Sunderland 10k

Cheers that sounds dangerous for my calfs - I'm after as few hills as possible but thanks for the info, also looking at the durham elvett one but it seems like a loop think its 21st June...might see how I feel in a week or two.

Shame that mate. Doubt you’d lose a load of fitness over four weeks but if you’re not feeling it then you’re making the right call.

Just checked the results for the 10k I had to dip, the winner was 34:25. I can barely scrape 5k in that time 😂
