Running Thread 2026

Plenty trails along the riverside to get a steady 5 miles in. Shame Lambtons is closed this weekend for a shoot or you could have ran around there, well worth a look around if you've not been in.
Not a fan of these crazy ultra ultra trail races, but I bet the scenery is stunning.

Good luck for Sunday mate, I'm going to have a few beers Saturday night too, can't make me run any worse than I know I already will 😀

Silky is ok for about 4.5k 😀
Nice downhill start and then mostly flat out to the lake for a couple of laps and back to the start. Except getting back to the start involves a little incline and it's a bit of a bastard
Did a bit tourist parkrun at silksworth this morning as living in Whitley bay only really come south if I visit my parents in Hebburn.

Only 2nd time I have done it and forgot how long that hill. 9th place - can only assume those doing the sunderland runs tomorrow rested

Good going that mate, I've only ever done silky park run a couple of times and both times I was pushing the bairn in the buggy! Usually stick with herra when I drag myself up and out

Ran a light traily route from Burton thru to South Hetton then over to Elemore for the Parkrun.

First time I've done it and what a lovely little parkrun it is. Bit challenging with the hills but still, really enjoyed it.

Done my first ever Park Run this morning. Rising Sun Country Park in North Tyneside. I live near there and it's on my running route anyway so didn't get to explore anywhere new, just wanted to see what the Park Run format and organization is like.

Surprised to see quite a few people had their dogs with them. It's quite a narrow course so very difficult to get past them. Actually nearly tripped over a lead half a mile in as the owner cut across me.

Is it normal for people to take their dogs?

Disclaimer: I love dogs. But when there's 300 or so people running in very close proximity I found it really strange behaviour to take a dog into that.

Best of luck everybody running tomorrow. Gutted to be missing it.

Druridge Bay park run this morning. Very pleasant. Came 6th which was surprising.

ye loads bring their dogs. Max one dog per person though.

My first half marathon tomorrow at SUndelrand = anyone got any top tips who has done it before? The pack says get there 30 minutes before rade start is that sound or should I be going earlier?

Looks like they've got pacers on tomorrow for the first time, might try and hang on to the 40:00 one as long as I can
Definitely having pacers, had them for the 5k tonight

I'm tempted to try and push it and try to stay with the 55 minute one which would be good for me

Go a bit earlier, soak up the atmosphere.

Keep to your plan that you have trained for and just enjoy it , will have pacers with flags to guide you to a time if you want help with that

It's easy when racing with other people to get taking in by the day and go off to fast which I'm guilty off

I think that was the case, I used it as a shakeout run, and I noticed a couple of runners who would be up front plodding in the middle of the pack.

I’ve had to dip the 10k I was doing today, the only way I could get there was going to have me stuck in Bridgwater for 2+ hours before it started. If any of you know Bridgwater, you’d agree it’s not somewhere you want to hang around for hours on end 😂 I’m going to do my own 10k after work instead.

Really disappointing today, 10th year doing the Sunderland 10k and it was actually one of my slowest ever. Been dealing with some knee issues (IT Band) for a few weeks now so haven't trained a great deal. Started too fast, my second 5k was nearly 5 mins slower than the first which is concerning.

Well done everyone who done it today, was fairly good conditions for it.

Got Hartlepool HM in 2 weeks and Windermere Marathon in 4 weeks. Think I just need to get through those 2 events and have some extended period of rest over the summer. Plenty of time to reset and rebuild for Athens Marathon in November.
