Southampton spying compendium thread

That went well 😂

You can analyse and do whatever you want but it doesn't mean it makes a difference on match day.

Football is a simple game. There's far too much bullshit involved these days IMO. Buy the right players (see Sunderland summer 2025) get your players fit, get a happy atmosphere around the place, good team spirit and make sure everyone knows there job and you'll win more than you lose.

That's Brian Clough's mantra in a nutshell and it STILL works!

Compare us to the mags. Wrong (new) players, bad atmosphere and £750M worth of players underperforming.
bore row had two games to shut the saints up they couldn't do it get over it

I can’t see the EFL having the stones to do anything more than a fine and a points deduction from the start of next season whichever league they’re in. If they’re even allowed to do that

Will be a fine and minor points deduction on next season within the championship.

What would be better is if they took 50% of their prize money and shared it out between the rest of the clubs who featured in the league this season.

I really can’t see the EFL doing anything quickly.

If they chuck Southampton out of the play offs, it will almost certainly lead to legal action which will turn the league into a farce. The premier league will also get very annoyed as it could disrupt their season.

It’s shit on boro but they should have been promoted in Carricks first season. The embarrassing last day performance against Coventry cost them promotion.

Seems a bit harsh to not punish Southampton properly because Michael Carrick got his tactics wrong against Coventry in 2023 like ;-)

If Southampton are promoted, the EFL have no power to force a points deduction in the PL.

I suppose they could suspend the punishment for when they are back in the EFL though?

Arent Greggs expensive these days Brucey?

You are not making sense Keith… why are you defending cheating.
Did they cheat and break the laws of the game? YES
Did the benefit they got from that act potentially benefit them in the subsequent game ? YES
What punishment should they receive? Given the insight could be game winning, it has to be the game forfeited…. Otherwise every other club would be mad not to do it.

The game is driven by data and marginal gains your stance is rather old school.
The hilarious thing about Keiths stance is if it had happened to us (say by Coventry last season and they had gone on to beat us) he would have been blowing an absolute gasket wanting every lawyer in the land involved until they were kicked out and we took their place. He'd have been kicking off more than the rest of the board put together.
Really weird view he is taking.

You need to get a refund on that crstal ball 🔮

I can see that it's technically against the spirit of the game. I just don't think it makes much difference. I am allowed that opinion. Apparently I should just agree with the majority...

Would it not be investigated by an independent body and they can recommend punishment whichever league they’re in or is it solely handled by the EFL? I’ve no idea how it works to be honest

This place would be lit up if it was a team caught doing it against us so I have every sympathy for our Yorkshire acquaintances.
Those saying it’s no big deal either are aff their tits or are on the wind up.

Realistically, this needs calling before the final, well before, Soton need to be thrown out and for every club that have evidence against them a three point deduction next season.

It will never happen though as the governing authorities in football want an easy life which only involves saying yes to brown envelopes for the most part. Rather than actually handing down a punishment. Now if Southampton were broke with no money to challenge them legally, then they’d happily stick the boot in as it would be no risk. But since they have some of the biggest revenue in that league, I sadly doubt they will do anything of significance in this judgement.

Right now I suspect they are just praying Hull win so they can dedicate 5-6 points from Southampton and call it done.

Give them a points deduction whatever league they’re in next season. That’s deterrent enough. If this was a league game, there’s no way Boro would have been awarded a 3-0 walkover. Boro had 210 minutes to win the tie. They couldn’t.

Giving them a points deduction in the Premier League along with 200 million pounds in their bank is hardly a deterrent

Thought Boro were toothless and undeserving to reach the final, though the Saintless seemed to be playing mindgames all night... Hopefully Hull will win the final

They will have been praying for a Boro win.

There will have been a few of the bigwigs at the EFL that had a sleepless night last night after that result.
I’m not sure what they do now. There’s going to be 35,000+ Southampton fans booking travel and hotels in London today. It’s going to be carnage.
