Running Thread 2026

Managed my first run for 4 weeks due to a calf problem (not a baby cow) anyway anaged a slow 4K without anything breaking BUT i'm down for first ever half maraton at Sunderland shortly, feels like I might need to swap to 10K as dont have the miles in my legs

Given what's happened with the memberships now , and how ok sure you get in mainly if you do the 10k too ,. unbelievable how they need money
Completely agree. 60k people just in GNR alone at minimum £70per person average. Not to mention sponsors, merchandise, memberships etc all a bit strange but I’m very naive on the finances of it all.

I’m certain it costs a few quid to shut the roads down, policing etc but surely £100k is a drop in the ocean on this?

Brendan foster is a robbing bastard and the GNR has made him a multi millionaire....not my words but those of my father in law who has now passed over a few years ago and was a local football and athletics journalist....not a fan at all. Feels like council out manouevred by organisers....

ANyone knwo - Ive sent them a message today - if you can down grade sundelrand half marathon to Sunedlran 10K or what the process is, been injured more than active in 2026 so far

Dunno if it's officially possible but just rock up to the 10k and run, they'll only check your number at the finish.....if you're not bothered about the shirt and medal just turn up, there's never any security

Let me read the FAQs on the website for you.

Can I change my race distance?

Yes — this is a new feature available via your Runner Dashboard (link in your confirmation email).

If you choose to upgrade your distance, any difference in entry cost will need to be paid online.
If you downgrade, please note that refunds for the price difference are not available.

Our lass is desperate for a Blaydon Race place, if anybody can't do it and doesn't mind transferring, once the portal is open, let me know and we'll send the money over/sort it out.

It's on the day before she turns 40 so she wants it as part of her birthday celebrations
Just bumping this incase anybody has a Blaydon Race place they want to swap out of?

Seems unlikely but I promised her I'd try

Enjoyed it mate. Disappointed with my run slightly (3rd leg Houghton) but no knee issues which has stalled my running the last three weeks.

Well done 👍
Well done, Leg 2 for me. I do like the relays. Think our fastest club runner was around 8min 30 which is just insane
