And look where Leicester are now. Also Forest are in a good place right now but were very close to going down a couple of times.Just that, if we miss out on top 10 and Europe, it's not the end of the world and consolidating ourselves as a PL club may be a slow and steady process across a few seasons, in the same way as Brighton, also Bournemouth and Brentford. That said, you do get the examples of Leicester and Forest, who made much faster progress
I don't completely disagree, but I've supported Sunderland long enough and also know how the premier league is to know we are potentially only one bad transfer window away from relegation. As it happens I don't think we will qualify for Europe, but to say we actively don't want to qualify I just don't understand. And there’s the reason for the dropped points yesterday.
It’s insane how some people don’t think it was the main factor.
Would love for us to play in Europe one day, but I do think we need to be realistic here.
It’s our first season back in the premier league for 8 years and the last 2 prem seasons have had all promoted clubs relegated.
Only aim this season was stop up, and we’ve mathematically done that with 3 games to spare.
I think the whole Europe talk needs to be shelved until we establish ourselves as a premier league club - see Brentford or Brighton etc.
Tell me, we're we ready for premier league football this time last season?
Agree, with all of that.I don't completely disagree, but I've supported Sunderland long enough and also know how the premier league is to know we are potentially only one bad transfer window away from relegation. It's not a given we stay in the premier league for any length of time.
Anything butThat performance with ten men wasn't one on the beach
We haven’t, they’ve been playing 1 game a week, big deal!Bit of both but mainly we've flogged most of the starting 11 to death this year
To anybody but the blind.10 men for 70 mins. Away from home. Pretty obvious really.
Covered this already above...We haven’t, they’ve been playing 1 game a week, big deal!
Agree, with all of that.
Being in Europe gives the opportunity to have a better transfer window and thus lessens the risk of a bad one.
The “too soon” brigade are way off.
1) The squad would be the same size.Couple of questions for you…
1) Do you think we’d need a bigger squad for a European campaign than if we solely had the PL to focus on?
2) Do you think having £30m less to spend on the European enlarged squad than the PL squad would lead to a better European squad?
1) The squad would be the same size.
2) I’m not sure the calculation is as straightforward as just giving a figure. If the income is greater via Europe then the % of income would probably be similar in total to the higher % of not being in Europe, as far as I can see.
Anyway, we’re not in Europe next year.
But would you advocate we don’t try for Europe next season? Settle for bottom half again? Because that’s the attitude that gets you absolutely nowhere.
Or you have the brain of a 5 year old.Why would you not want to see your club play in Europe? Pure cuck mentality.
We had one of the best transfer summers of any club in living memory - for the money spent. We would need another summer of near equal success to be ready for Europe. As it stands I think we need 2 left backs, 2 right wingers, 1 left winger, a new striker and at least a back up for Xhaka. Thats before any departures such as possibly Sadiki. We werent ready to go up 12 months ago. Looked how that has turned out.
This let's wait until we all die before European football stuff needs to get in the bin.
If we're good enough to qualify then bring it on we've got an entire summer to sign more players.
If we don't make it will be gutting as the chance was there but will still be a great season regardless.
We'd been fine for success in Europe.Or you have the brain of a 5 year old.
Ask Leicester how it's going after getting into Europe and throwing money at it.

No, and it took an amazing summer of recruitment, just as Europe would take a similar summer. I think asking for back to back summers at that level of success is asking a lot and I would rather build on our premiership status first.Tell me, we're we ready for premier league football this time last season?
