Creativity poor

Its a defend first mentality that stiffles our creativity. Even when Regis talks about wingers, it's about their defensive qualities over speed or ability on the ball.

Personally, I wonder if Regis would prefer wing backs? They seem to suit his tactics more than wingers do, but I'm not sure if he's the one who makes the calls on who comes in.

Going a man down didn't help yesterday, and I think we beat Wolves if Ballard hadn't seen red, but these tactics are a concern for next season.
Would have been two up if he started Rigg and went for it. Hard to blame Hume but that shit has to stop.

Don't think Hume was bad tbh, and Rigg goes missing for long periods in games, so maybe that was the thought process? Maybe Diarra could actually have potential out on the right.

I don't think it really matters who's out wide when their remit is on defensive work first. Regis needs to shift from that mentality, and the slow build up from out the back, which is painful to watch at times. Our high press, and zip has all but disappeared, and it doesn't seem to be coming back anytime soon.

We look really soft tbh.

Rigg doesnt go missing, it’s the safety first way we are set up that in essence starves him of the ball.

The philosophy has to be decided first. Is Brobbey the main man or is he only used in certain situations. Is our Plan A a hold up guy or a runner in the channels. Newcastle have the same dilemma with Woltemade. I'm sure this will be decided in transfer window and players bought/sold based on that.

He does fade in games like, but that's only natural when your his age and playing what is a square peg in a round hole role.

I've already said that we set up with a defense first mentality. Too much ball played in our own half, slow build up due to playing out from the back, and Brobbey constantly isolated with being the only one in an advanced position. Theres things that really do need to change.

I know people mention the way we set up hinder our creativity but we really don’t help ourselves in the final third with poor passing, shots and decision making.

Last week we actually had double the amount of touches inside the oppositions box than forest did, yet was there any meaningful chances bar Riggs? Then yesterday there was so many wasted passes on the edge of wolves box even before the sending off.

We need a better striker than Brobbey to finish chances.
Where we gonna find one of those 😂 brobbeys being linked with moves to bigger clubs and is the perfect striker for us and how we set up. We’d have been relegated playing Wilson all season. We’ve got a striker bigger clubs are chasing reportedly who’s exactly the mould of striker that fits with the now well played one up top. We just need to provide him with more chances and get midfielders near him more and running off him. We’d won’t and can’t afford a better striker than Brian at this point.

We could have haaland up top at times we don’t create enough clear cut chances. Like you say we’ve not got the wingers atm either on form or in the club and diarra is seen as the one to run off Bobby from midfield but bar a few games he’s not shown the ability to do that.

While I think there is a big overreaction on here and lack of perspective on where we are as a club it is undoubted that we have an issue with creating chances. We’ve relied on eking out goals and having a great defensive structure. This is allied to a strong leader that sets standards and drives the team. The XG doesn’t lie… we are a poor attacking team. I hope we can develop some of the talent we have otherwise we will be waiting for new players to adapt to the prem again next year
On brobbey the poor guy is living in scraps. He could easily be as good as a Matete for example if he got service. Too often he is alone with 2 defenders on him. He doesn’t get space as the defenders aren’t asked to make decisyeitg other runners to cover. We need to get him better service then see how he does.
It will be a big summer but the foundations are good. Hopefully we will bring in 3 to 4 top quality players and then see a more attacking philosophy from the manager

He also needs support to be fair. When we get him facing goal he's dangerous and has scored from it.

99% of the time it's either punted at him from miles away or his back is to goal with zero support.

Hes the ideal striker to have someone running off him
I know it was only Burnley but that game the above worked well. Into him and players running off him. We should’ve had 5 or 6.

We’ve missed Traore imo, the 3 or 4 games he’s actually been fully fit he’s torn the arse out of whatever fullback he was up against.
I’d agree our wingers are largely talented youngsters, traore is obviously not that. He’s an experienced pro who’s played around the world now and had three stints in the premier league. He may not be the fastest or most creative but he brings a bit more experience even if it’s when to make a pass or when to make a run. I hope he stays for one more season and we sign another winger with a little bit more experience too. I think on paper with talbi and angulo we have two very talented but raw wingers. I’m excited to see what they both bring next season.

Have you seen anything at all in Diarra to make you think that?

Agree about Talbi - I think he’s done ok.
Talbi has probably exceeded expectations for me. When he was signed, all reports suggested that he was very talented but very raw.

I think Adingra was signed to provide a lot of the creativity but he proved to be one of the few disappointments of the summer window.
