Dave Watson comments in Echo, Sunlund former youth team keeper

Most teams in the country would have leavers, probably more elsewhere, if their team was 4-0 down at half time.

Personally I thought the fans were fantastic in the second half, right up until the ref killed the momentum with the utter joke amount of time he took with the VAR decision, we were pretty loud.

I'm normally very much a glass half full person, but found that a very tough watch. I even did what I've never done before and left before full time and just missed the 5th goal, although I did hear their fans cheer as I started over Keel Crossing.

Don't hate me.

People are trying to re-write history. There were loads leaving even after 3-0 and more after 4-0. Some may have gone for a drink but most went. Second half the crowd looked at L1 level and that, for me, gave a hint that those who left only returned to the club when we got into the promised land. Now, I get that some who left will be diehard but it looked shit. The irony was, firstly, that Kevin Ball was shown at half time talking about how great the fans are because 'we win together and we lose together'. Well that was apparent on Friday. Secondly, all the 'Till the End' stuff, which has been brilliant, can now be thrown back at us. I had seen a few times this season on social media photos of the Mags leaving before the end when losing, well now that is very much our reputation, whether deserved or not. I get the argument that its someones right to do so and don't disagree but the mass exit has been talked about nationally and our reputation as a fanbase has taken a knock. And, yes, I know some don't care and will probably have a go at me but I was surprised and disappointed with how many left at half time and before and didn't come back.

That is completely different to leaving on 38 minutes.

No, they went for a drink etc and came back for the 2nd half

A massive chunk did, you can tell he’s never been to the Sol or watches on tv. Some did fuck off but I’d majority stayed and was a decent fun atmosphere give the game was dead.
Who is Dave Watson and why is is his opinion relevant ? ( Not the 1973 legend hero I must say )
I’ve got no f***ing idea.

Used to keep me up at night wondering what ex Barnsley keeper from the 90s David Watson thought of Sunderland fans, I can sleep easy now.

I think it's poor when anyone leaves early to be honest, whether f***ing off home or early for a half time pint. Not interested in the whole "thave paid their monee" debate either, because they'd be the first to whinge about being deemed as "customers".

Doubt it'll be popular like but it's a hill I'm happy to die on.
