The commodification of televised football

Sure someone who’s more into cricket will say otherwise but did they ever apart from retired old folk. Bit different for one day and more recently 20/20 stuff. Are less kids playing? All these all stars kids cricket stuff seem to always be sold out
#11 says not.

Disgraceful that both fa semi finals aren’t shown on free to air tv, it’ll be interesting to see what TNT do next season when they’ve lost the champions league and Europa league, will people pay £30 per month for one premier league game per week

Who has got them for next season?

The £22 for sky sports is quite good value if you ask me. It’s the others, £30 for tnt when they show Aussie rules and Pool is a rip off.
I actually think sky sports is reasonably priced think I might pay 23.50 or something at the minute after me last retention dance.

It’s got loads on in reality in comparison to TNT. I like cricket but I don’t want to pay to watch Australia v Bangladesh because they paid to pinch the ashes series down there. They show all the secondary aspects of most sporting genres. It’s vastly overpriced for its actual content. Sky could possibly save a load of money by not having 24hour sports news on which is overkill now .

Doubt that costs much, it’s cheap filler tv

Surely there would be an argument TNT would make more money on a Sunday if they broadcasted the semi final LIVE? , rather than hope a few thousand new customers signed up for the month. I would imagine viewing figures would be millions in the UK and they could charge big advertising fees , with the caveat this is been watched by millions of the UK public.

LIVE and FREE I meant to say

I'm sure this has been posted about many times on here, but it really is a shame that apart from the odd FA Cup match, or a one-off like Coventry vs Wrexham today, people can't watch any live football on terrestrial television.

It's no wonder so many people are using illegal streaming services. When Spotify/Apple Music started streaming music that people wanted at a fair price, music piracy basically disappeared. I'm not saying their models are perfect given how little the artists get paid, but it makes it accessible to everyone.

Not only that, but if your match isn't picked for broadcast (even if its not at 3pm Saturday), how is a fan supposed to access that content legitimately with the rules how they are now?

Something needs to change with it.
Rarely watch any live footy now, was better when it was on council tele, especially The Champions League, and before it had about 900 teams in it

Today I pretended I was at my Nana's and watched the game on ITV while cooking a joint of meat

FA Cup should be free to air. Who even has a TNT subscription? Only available to dodgy firestick owners, of which I of course have no knowledge or experience

I realise this may be a daft question but help me out here. I have a 24 month contract with EE which includes TNT, am I able to cancel a channel without incurring a penalty?

the most scandalous thing really is how much the top players are getting paid on the bsck o tge TV money, its not sustainable. 100k a week and more is a scandal for what is sometimes mediocre talent.

Couple of years at that level and you should be set for life. I happily refuse to pay the going rate to watch my football in the hope that the whole thing collapses some time soon.

I will guarantee you too a few of these lads will declare bankrupt a decade on.
