Tom Burwell - Interim CEO Podcast

I know that. But the poster asked if we know about who its for, how much it will be and what you get etc.
Obviously we haven't a clue at the moment I might be wrong but I'm sure he said something about foreign supporters who probably will never get to the SOL having a connection with the club by being a member, but probably wishful thinking on his part
We just need to sign a Chinese or Japanese player now

Theres no way football clubs the size of ours are bringing the manufacture of the club shirts in house.

Most clubs struggle to succesfully sell tickets in a fair and simple way.

For the umpteenth time you don't bring it in house. You get an expert in and farm the whole of it out specialists. You then pay them and keep the rest as profit. I've farmed stuff out and had stuff farmed out to my company. As long as your communication is good it's beneficial and easy for both parties. As long as you're not asking anyone to do anything outside of their area of expertise it's a doddle.

bringing an expert in to do it is the very definition of bringing it in house.
nobody has done it successfully over time for a reason. Its pie in the sky.
And not on the cards.
And what youve just described above is the very model all the clubs currently use. Farm the whole process out to specialists like Hummel, Nike or Adidas.

It really isn't. It would be one person overseeing a process and the rest of the club wouldn't be heavily involved until the van turned up with the strips.

Yeah they'd be a bit rubber stamping of the design and the paying of bills but that's about it.

Was this not almost the model when we used Avec?
Forsook the big brands to have locally sourced strips.

Now that we have Fanatics in place for distribution we could easily outsource the supply and instead of making a percentage of each shirt after a lump sum, we would take most of the money after production costs.
Who knows which is best?
The fact not many outsource maybe suggests it’s not that clear cut.

I take “heart “from that interview that he seems to understand the importance of the fans balanced within the néed for global growth which will attract better players from increased revenue .
Seems the club is intent on improving our finances ( global and corporate growth ) to compete at the highest level -as long as you say we are still at their forefront ehen decision making I would love to see us kick on before I keel square over …!
I’m quite excited by it as long as we maintain the club /fans connection
This ownership isn’t here it seems for mediocrity
Big Belly….I admire your optimism. However there is basically fuck all chance that the club/fans connection will be ‘maintained’. What connection? You mean the patronising nonsense they push out at SC renewal time about fans ‘making the difference; or the obligatory ‘and a word on the fans’ question at the end of every in-house post match interview; or the guff coming out of the interim CEO’s mouth about ‘community’ whilst his staff enact ticketing policy that results in MLFs who have had SCs for decades put to the back of the SC waiting list. I have been to the majority of away games this year. The experience has, bar the rare exception, been pretty poor…..sterile stadiums with the same pre-match hype and bollocks, filled with gawping ‘customers’ wearing their newly purchased half-n-half scarf! I want SAFC to be successful, but not if I end up being surrounded by Korean tourists in the South Stand busy watching the match through their IPhones!

It's not hard. You work out what you think you can make doing it yourself with all the actual work outsourced. Then you get quotes off strip manufacturers. If you think you can make say £12M a season and they offer £10M you'd probably go with the guaranteed £10M in case you've got your sums wrong. If they offer £5M go it alone.

The PL has changed a lot since we were last in it. Massive changes will have to be made for us to compete financially, whether people like it or not. As sad as it is you cant just rely on being a regionally massive club. It's all about global pull now.
Exactly and we are regional mags are global. We will be global in 5 yr.

And there is your conundrum.
In order to work out how much you can make you need to have the quotes.
To get the quotes you need your specification and design etc, for which you’d also need quotes.
It’s not something done on the back of a fag packet.
I did notice a vacancy for a Procurement Manager at the club. So maybe they are looking to bring in the expertise to carry out the necessary actions.

I don’t disagree -I want the same folk
around me -but can there not be a happy medium ?
Suppose we will see -going to contradict myself ( I know ?) but the Mags away support at our place last two visits was so far removed from the hostile stuff of the 70s ànd 80s it was incredible
Add in free scarves ànd packed lunches I thought they “ have lost it “
I hope we don’t go that route ànd can somehow maintain our current fan base whilst getting financial backing but at a distance or corporate only ?

Spot on with the Mags. I couldn’t believe how ‘lame’ their away support was, especially for the FA Cup game. In my opinion all the warning signs are there that we are heading the same way as the majority of the PL clubs. I hope I am wrong but I simply disagree with those (not you) who seem content to see supporters priced out or ‘discarded’ by the club in the pursuit of success…whatever that means in reality when we are competing against state-owned clubs!

À balance marra -difficult ( why I hoped Bruce -David not Steve was still here )is needed -the players /manager /fans are aligned at mo -I ( based on absolutely nowt other than the players realise this too ?) I think we will keep our identity -kick on ànd give teams next season àn even bigger fright !
This is the best time to support the lads in my lifetime-yes there’s worry -yes there’s huge change -but ambitious owners are causing anxiety as we ain’t used to desire for success at the top level
Do we want to compete there ?-why not -we are proud and if we can do it without losing our soul why not?
It’s so blooming hard for me to think we can be at the top table -it’s almost like we shouldn’t or don’t deserve to be there-that interview suggests otherwise and the owners really want to compete
What a time to be a supporter
Haway the Lads
