Put a flat earthier into space

Well lets start with the two simple things. First of all the Navy did not say that. That is just some bloke ranting. Is there an actual source for what the Navy said?

Second, the maths he uses, "8 inches per mile squared". Flat earthers trot this out, but this is not how to measure the curve of the earth. A relationship of x squared describes a parabolic curve, it does not describe a sphere or circle.

Dave whats the maths then, I thought 8 squared was correct

No. Try graphing it, you get a parabolic curve.

I thought you were someone with all the answers and proof.

The actual equation is:
h = r - r cos (d/r)
Where d is the distance between two points, r is the radius of the planet and h is the height of the drop.

Once you have that and you do work it out, you also need to consider that the rate the horizon drops away for an observer is not what you are wanting to work out anyway. You need to calculate what the 'hump' is on a curved surface between two points. That is the same as the drop over the horizon for half the distance, so you need to calculate it for 50 miles not 100.

Then you need to consider that this is how much the hump of the earth will stick up for two observers at sea level. In this situation you need to account for both the height of the missile and the height of the laser being fired. This is why the actual quote from the Navy needs to be verified and that video seems to have been snipped to only show one side of the discussion and only the doubter presenting data. If you have ever been diving then you will know that when you surface, you can not see that far around you, but even the smallest bit of elevation by standing in the dive boat can reveal a lot more.

If you get accurate source data for the problem you want to try and prove and then adjust the above equation to also account for the height of objects above, then you can start to prove if this is possible or not.

Also consider the other implication. If the earth was flat, then the US Navy would be able to take down missiles from anywhere.

Dave I dont have all the answers but what I do have is the ability to question what we are told and then go away and seek to verify if its correct. I have over my 71 years discoverd we have been lied to about alomst eveything to keep us timid and scared of Authority and the people who rule us.

Lied to about the shape of the earth for what reason? It's complete and utterly moronic to think there's 100's of 1000's of scientists and other who are in on this childish conspiracy.

Do flat earthers believe that there is an edge that you would fall off then. Or do they believe it just goes on infinitely 🤔
An ice wall apparently

I'm sure you have been lied to about a lot of things.
But the earth isn't flat.
That's not even up for debate man.
Nothing works on a flat earth model

Well seek to verify if what you posted is correct then. Validate the quote, find out what they were shooting and from where and then lets work through the maths on here.

If you can’t find the quote this bloke was ranting about, then it could be the quote was made up.
