SAFC - Fan Ban & Ticket Cancellations

Actually about a dozen years ago I organised @djbambi stag do and we decide to go to Liverpool. I put some feelers out and managed to secure tickets for the Sunderland game at Anfield.

About half a dozen of us were very long term season ticket holders, his mate from work wasn't and his future brother in law from Bury was a season ticket holder but at Old Trafford. We had a cracking couple of days, got a draw and had a great time despite me only being able to secure some decidedly micey digs due to it being the Grand National weekend.

Do I feel remotely guilty about this? Do I fuck. David Moyes was not long around the corner followed by Grayson and Coleman. You take the rough with the smooth. That's what true supporters do.

Paul Collingwood seems to be popping up at several away matches.

Villa his latest and I'm sure he was at Newcastle.

Does he even have a season ticket never mind enough points for the mags?
Yes I saw him at both games, unsure about whether he has a season ticket but I’ve definitely seen him in the SoL on a few occasions.

You don't think people can drop out last minute, which quite frankly is madness to think that.

Somewhere along the conversation this turned from dozens of tickets being bought in batch and being handed around, to one person suddenly falling ill on the morning of a game and not being able to attend. You'd have to follow the trail of quotes to see that.

It only got to that because you started questioning a lad to buys for his group of mates and then correctly said once he's bought them he has no control what happens with them.

How many tickets do we think the club / ticket office creamed off the top for the recent derby game? A couple of hundred maybe? More, less? They certainly won't be upfront and open about the figure but they have robbed loyal fans.

But that's OK because they make up the rules as they go along. Probably gave a couple to someone from Timbuktu who happened to pop in the club shop for a pair of away socks.

Has it ever been a debate that fans are getting into the away end not using their own points? We know it happens every away game and it’s impossible to stop unless you ID every single person which will never happen.

I still can’t work out from this whole thread whether people want that to happen or not. From what I’ve observed people are very critical of tickets being passed on unless it’s in a branch?

To be honest, after the fuck up it’s been this season, I’d bin off the ID checks altogether because there’s no fair way to apply it. You can’t check 10 tickets out of 3,000, and then punish 3 out of 3,000 if they fail the ID check but have potentially hundreds get away with it. Then the argument that popped up earlier in the season resurfaces about it being a closed shop and people will continue to pass their ticket on. I really don’t know what the answer is to be fair.

Its not a closed shop if people pass tickets on. In fact its the exact opposite. I'm on 25 points all of which I have earned myself and attended (mainly because I cant be arsed to pass the link on even if I wasnt going) but if for whatever reason I missed out on tickets which happens regularly as im useless with deadlines etc then I would phone a mate and have a spare within a couple hours. Now I am reluctant to ask for fear of getting people into bother. If I dont ask, I dont go. That is the closed shop. There'll be hundreds that fancy going to XYZ that now can't because spares (in theory) dont exist anymore. The whole premise of "spares" helps folk get to away games which is the opposite of a closed shop.

The club are so backwards on this.

Been helped and helped fans numerous times but now very cautious about doing either

Can’t argue with that like, you’re pretty much bang on

I think the definition of closed shop, when those so inclined get into a discussion about it on here, is in the eye of the beholder.
Devil's advocate, whilst seeing your point, I can also see the argument some may have that your example is the very definition of it, because access depends on who you know.

This entire debate has thrown up extremes (away tickets in general over last few months, not just this thread). There's the passing on of 'spares', and there's the 'farming' as some are calling it - those 'passing on' tickets they had no intention of going to but want to accumulate points.

I think the nuances are getting lost in the emotion on both sides.
Just imo of course

Couldn’t agree more!

Ffs the club is the biggest culprit for giving tickets to people who don't deserve to be there .there's probs 200 to0 given to people who work at the club. The matchday squad is more than 50 and they all get 2 tickets at least .corporate then the sponsors .players agents all get there fare share of tickets .none of these people have got the required bcp and given out to anybody .we see if we start to struggle next season at Coventry on a Monday night if anybody bothered where the tickets came from
