People keep arguing that it's simple, and just move him into the middle. But its not that simple. He can't do the things that Diarra does, and Diarra can't do things he does.
If we drop Diarra and put ELF in the middle, then you eliminate the midfield runner. He is the pace and the legs breaking forward from midfield. He's also our best player at carrying out a high press and running close to Brobbey.
Even the chance he f@cked up against Villa, if Diarra isn't playing there we don't even get that chance, because he's the only one with the pace and forward-running from the centre, to actually get onto that ball in the first place. Ironically it was ELF - cutting in from the LW - that created that chance!
I fully acknowledge that ELF is a better technician and more creative, he's a superb player. And it is a little bit of a problem, and playing ELF wide left is a compromise - and it's exactly what I said would happen when Diarra came back to fitness. But it's far more complicated and a real trade off than people want to make it out.
He should have scored yesterday though, that was a crap finish that would have been cleared by a defender even if it bypassed Martinez.
