After Messi got that negligee to wear at the last World Cup , I wonder what Trump gives to the winning captain to wear as they get the cup . Probably a MAGA hat .

Exactly this, didn’t spend a single penny on transport, went to all the stadiums, the most user friendly World Cup there’ll ever be.

IIRC it used to be a bidding requirement that transport was free but it was changed for this one. There’s a decent Athletic article about it. IIRC it now has to be “at cost” which enables the transport commissioner to argue that due to necessary rescheduling and extra security, this is the true cost. So no one’s actually gouging the fans to make a profit (not that this makes it any better), but it’s a daft situation which should have been sorted years ago and awful PR for FIFA and the USA

All the extra visitors will spend money in and around the area tho. There's absolutely no justification for that pricing.

Seen as the infrastructure is already there, and it’s a rapid transit system anyway, I find it difficult to see how an over 1000% price increase is just covering costs.

Let be honest Russia and Qatar were doing it for sportswashing or and an ego trip for their dictator. America and the people in charge are just doing the same and making sure they see the benefits but instead of looking good it’s getting rich in money or politics.

I heard this also, but I don’t understand the logic?

How does it cost more? Where is the “additional” tax burden on locals? It doesn’t add up (like most of the bullshit those pricks try to feed the rest of the world)

Extra over time for drivers, security, clean ups but even then the price increase can’t be explained.

Has the local tax issue been sorted yet? Sure one of the states were saying they are going to claim tax from the players for money they’ve earned during the World Cup as FIFA only agreed with the country not states.

Surely there’s a trade off between administration costs and the boost to the local economy?

Hotels and bars will be making a fortune. Just stick a dollar on every pint and collect it that way. Fans would still be getting ripped off itd just be much less noticeable.

They'll already be doing that, well adding an extra $5 and then expecting an even bigger tip. This is just the local authority wanting to look good to its people saying we wont be held ransom and charge you for it we will charge those visitors instead.
