Let’s be realistic about next season

Yeah but he again broke down when Reinaldo was injured this year and we ended up playing Hume left back. Sorry but we can't keep a player who is only fit for about a dozen games a season.
that's just timing though. We could have had another LB instead of Cirkin and they could have got injured at the same time

I really like Cirkin, and you have to take the concussion completely out of the equation... but that aside some people are injury prone and he seems like one. It's cruel and savage but as a business as well as a club, SAFC have to be that.
Not speaking about Cirkin anymore, hope he's fine now, but anyone that's been injured knows how it goes.
Your knee is fucked for a few months... you get that sorted but you've been putting your weight on the other knee for months now so the opposite ankle's fucked... things compound.

Well, consider first what actually will be realistic. KLD will be in charge, I'm certain that RLB will be our manager & Xhaka is here to stay for more than just one season. Things are going really really well and we've got the best chance in 20 years to play in Europe. for us to play there again, is everything. Ask Xhaka if you don't believe me.

Villa game might knock me back on my arse but watching Fulham and Brentford put absolutely no effort into their pushes for Europe has got me hungry.

A Xhaka like signing would be lovely. I’m trying to think who this could be. A sit up and take notice type of signing.
Hoping the board can pull this off.

It’s very rare to be in a position where adding to the first 11 and improving it is difficult but that’s what we will need to do.
That means signings of this season’s quality are the base line and two or three targets need to be beyond that. It’s exciting to think we’ll be looking at players as good as we have and thinking “ we need better” or at least “ we need just as good but younger”.

Obviously we aren’t getting another Xhaka, but we need a (and I hate using this term) quarterback type midfielder. Someone who dictates play, guides the young lads through games and leads by example. He can’t play every game and were a much poorer side without him.

I don’t think Isidor or Mayenda are PL players. Mayenda may improve but I’m not convinced. We need at least 1 new striker.

We need a top quality right winger, someone on the level of Rayan at Bournemouth.

If we are to improve on what’s been a fantastic season, do we need to be even more ruthless than we were last season with the squad?

Far from it, last season was the transformation of the squad, now we just need to look at gradually improving it. Some of that will come naturally with our young players.

We can’t stand still, but there is no need for massive changes.

The simple fact about next season is consolidation. If we can match our performance this season it is a huge achievement. This will likely mean less big signings are holding on to key players from this season (or having to bring in replacements of the same quality) more squad building for depth, additions the the u21s etc.

We will also have to address some of our weaknesses from this season as well. The league might be stronger as a whole next season because I think a lot of clubs will be shitting themselves with what has happened to Wolves (and either West Ham or Tottenham), and won't be willing to coast on their assumed established premier League status and they did this season- with the assumed same three up and down pattern of the last few years.

Clubs will spend... But- we increase our head room because we have an extra season in the PL to count regarding fsr.

We are in an incredible position

I’ve still got one eye on who comes up. Coventry owner stating they’ll not be following our model….excellent, and Millwall and Hull would be the two I’d like to join them.

I would like us to keep Cirkin. I don’t think Gerty will want to stay due to lack of game time, but I would like to see us keep him too.

I think we need to move for a new left back though. Reinaldo is topper, but he’s getting on a bit so I would imagine his performances will start to drop off if we rely on him to play every match, especially so if we qualify for Europe.

If we are being absolutely ruthless, then I think we need new wingers too. Am I right in thinking Traore is only on a short term deal? Then beyond that, only Talbi has had any real consistency. But that’s only if I’m being as ruthless as the club were last year. I think there’s a player worth developing in Angulo. I liked the very small ammount I saw of ta bi, and I think riggy could learn to play the position well also if given the chance (though he’s deff better at cm atm)
Reinildo is 2 or so years younger than Xhaka. We need quality cover for both IMO
The Gerty situation needs fixing one way or another
We need someone who can cover for inevitable absences of Xhaka and for the coaching team to have a plan B when Xhaka is missing

Gonna go in our favour if cov come up with the likes of Millwall and Ipswich as none of them are gonna go apeshit in the transfer market, which means if we can keep the majority of the high performers here and add 2 or 3 improvements id feel pretty confident about being in that mid table group.

Been a weird old season this year, a lot of teams underperforming so may well be a harder season against the established teams next year, and they know what we have been about this year too so may well be a tougher task next year, as they won't be underestimating how well we can play

Definitely in need of someone that can play alongside/ deputise when xhaka isn't playing as we look a different team if he's out

I’m hopeful that we can keep the defence together, albeit maybe with a new keeper, but that defence is strong and full of character. Xhaka aside there may be bids in for a few of our players such as Sadiki, Le Fee and Brobbey so it’s what the club do with the money from sales which will dictate next season’s progress.

I'd assume we are gonna get another striker even if we keep brobbey, have to find a way of scoring more goals, and for all brobbey has been immense in games, we need someone that can chip in with additional goals.
Gonna be as much about who we keep this year as well as who we buy. Roefs is the main one id hate to see leave, could be our keeper for a decade+ if he keeps these performances up, unfortunately every man and his dog is looking for reliable keepers

I think Wilson will be away and I’m not convinced about Mayenda so you’re right about another striker Unrealistic I know even if West Ham go down but the likes of Bowen with his goals, assists and especially his work ethic is what we need out wide. I think the club are hopeful Diarra will turn into that goal scoring ACM but personally I don’t see it, his finishing isn’t good enough. A goal scoring acm would be perfect.
