SOL expansion

For me the main bit of “news” in this, is that it’s the high construction costs holding stadium expansion back, not demand, we clearly have the demand.

That is understandable as cost of construction has went through the roof last 5 years, the question for the club though, is I’m not sure it s going to come down again any time soon.
We build big warehouses at work and we thought we had loads of work lined up for the year. The price of steel has rocketed since it all kicked off with Iran and the knock on effect is big construction projects have either been cancelled or pushed back. The clients/developers are much bigger than SAFC and are just deciding it isn’t worth it at present. Any extension now would cost much more than the original build plus north extension put together.

If demand is there, then suppose it needs to be considered. Bit off topic, but if demand is that high, think the club should introduce a cup scheme ticket with season tickets. Obviously everyone has a choice, but if you choose, Automatically get your seat, loyalty point when activated at turnstile and could also help on priority phases for potential semi/finals. Our attendance at cup games has been abysmal for years and an even bigger stadium would be horrific with 15k in 1 stand.
3rd round should be included in season ticket

I am sure Bob murray bought some steel years ago for any future development. Anyone remember this?

It sounded like absolute nonsense at the time, but yes I heard such a rumour years ago.
Think he had it on order ready to do the South Stand after the North Stand but it never happened. Shame as it was cheap steel made on Teesside. God knows what the cost would be now manufactured in china and shipped in.

I doubt any extension would start anytime soon and if agreed it would be the end of next season at the earliest or even the following year..so one can hope America sees sense and gets rid of that deranged orange baby pdq and prices come down!

If we had the steel stored somewhere ,the spiv and the flashman wannabe would have sold it pdq!

I don’t remember that, but most steel frames are bespoke. So each steel section and connection is sized and designed to do a particular job structurally. If Bob has a yard somewhere with a replica of the north extension sat there then the design would be pretty fixed, but he could make a few quid selling it to the club.

They'll do the east and not the south

If they're going to extend it probably best to do both East Stand & Roker End.

Get it done with together!
Together would be stupid!to much logistical problems costing money and loss of revenue .now mind one after the other makes complete sense, but wont happen within next five years! It will be extend one and see how that works then if demand there extend again....

Ideally they would do the east stand first but given the new development around the stadium i think it will be the south stand first!

In truth they need to increase revenue and whilst the obvious first step is to increase ticket prices!... but we live in an area with one of the lowest disposable income households so there will be a cap on how high they can go before it loses them customers!... Personally i think they will extend within the next five years and for me its about the quality of this development not just numbers of extra seats.Better boxes ,better concourse, better bogs and kiosks is rule 101 of any development.

Actually think depending on how we finish this season & how we get on next a decision will be made.

Think the club will be wary of what is happening around sheepfolds...

Aye not going to turn it into a political thread, but the stupidity of not protecting British steel works, is coming back to haunt us.
