Matt Young - Thoughts from a Salford Fan

He's 19, will be 20 in November this year and isn't a reserve keeper. He's been first choice for all of this and a lot of last season.

Apart from that though.....
The jump from league 2 to championship is absolutely huge Patterson is on loan in the championship having been one of the best keepers in it

Highlight a complete different situation of a keeper being almost premier league ready, older and not necessarily needed by his parent club. Aye completely the same mate 😂
I’m highlighting the fact championship clubs can get a lot better players on loan than someone who’s currently playing league 2 and is a kid

Yes 20 odd league games not an 18 year old from league 2 on loan
He will be about the same age as Shay Given was when he came to us on loan. He didn’t do too badly. Matty also has two more years first team experience than Shay had at the time.
You could be right but you can’t rule it out as strongly as you are doing.

Clearly not watched him then or have some agenda. He is playing at a level above league 2. Shown by the fact he is going to london tmora for a chance to win being the best young player in the league despite only being 19

He looks absolutely fuck all like any 19 year old I've ever seen. He's a total monster. His attitude too, just ripping the piss out of everyone and batting off the jibes back.
When i saw him at Blyth Spartans playing for Darlo 3 seasons ago, he had an aura then that i hadnt seen very often and he was only 17 then. Kid is special and will be a star. Championship loan is definitely not unrealistic next season.

Seems to be extremely confident and with the ability to back it up. His kicking is supposed to be unbelievable.

Benefits of playing proper men's football at a young age. Progress isn't always linear and you can never tell a player's ceiling 'til they hit it, but hopefully he stays on the track he is and take the Pickford route of loans (League two > League one > Championship > Sunderland no.1)

There's some players that are just born ready and this lad looks like one of them. Roy Keane was 18 when he signed for Forest. Had played some games in the men's Irish league. Dropped straight into the first team that August and played about 120 games in 3 seasons.

They were mad keen to get him back this season ànd it’s seemingly worked out for all parties so far
Looks like he will experience the play offs ?
If they get promoted another season with them might not be so bad -especially if he’s settled living in Manchester

Think he should be loaned to Hartlepool next season along with Lamine Yamal, Max Dowman, Chris Rigg & Junior Kroupi, none of them can possibly be good enough for the championship.

Most mature, level headed and down to earth 19 year old I think I have ever seen.

What a prospect this kid is.

What he like with the ball at his feet? He looks like a top shot stopper with command of the box. He can go all.the way.

What is it with Safc and class goalkeepers?

Most important thing here will be getting the next loan(s) right, IMO.

He's clearly very talented by any objective analysis and there's no major rush at the moment.

Ideally and realistically, he'd get 40+ games at upper end L1 / lower end Championship next season and see where we are at that point.
