I just think the lad can be fast tracked to be our next number 1 imo. Providing Roefs stays another season.

Perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself, but he's that good.

It needs lots to align. If Roefs stay next season you hope Young is first choice in 2027/28, then either he needs to make the leap from League 1 to the PL (a huge leap) or risk him not getting enough game time in the championship and then being expected to play first choice in the PL the following year

Or we go down and meet him in the championship in 27/28?

No I agree absolutely. If we can hang on to Roefs until the end of next season, Young might be good enough then.

We might end up having a season where we need another keeper, but Young will be our number 1 one day, I’ve no doubt.

Garbut is a defender and Young is a goalkeeper. He is playing in front of Young.

That’s what I thought you meant, on first read it sounded like you were saying Garbutt was playing in goal

No need for him to go to league one. He's too good even for that level imo.

Pickford did not get much championship game time did he? Not sure getting championship game time is important for keepers.

Dozen in league two, fifty odd in league one and 24 in championship.

Guess a lot will depend on the Roefs situation and how highly they rate Ellborg.

Personally I'd like to see us bring another number one in of Roefs goes as I think Ellborg isn't quite ready and another year or two as number two playing here and there, cup games etc will serve him well.

That should allow Young to honour on loan but at a higher level and hopefully come in and him and Ellborg can challenge for number one status in a few years time.

All about playing games at this stage, no issues with a second league 2 season this year, but probably needs to move up next season Salford or elsewhere.

No need to try and rush the lad to the championship though where he could well end up being 2nd choice with 1 bad performance.

Always been tidy everytime Ive seen Garbutt play. He was the best player against City and few good appearances in the league. Comfortable with the ball at his feet

Stayed at Everton for too long, going out on loan a lot. He's had a solid career but hasn't gone as far as might have been expected for someone who got 11 U21 caps.
