County Cricket 2026

I’ve just seen the first case of some sort of pushback from the powers that be on the sub thing. Notts wanted to replace Fergus O’Neill with Olly Stone but were told no because he’s too fast. For all I get it, it just sounds a bit silly.

Well guess I won't be watching us play Lancs then

article past the paywall as you shouldn't have to give a pound of flesh for everything they want from you now

Incredibly short sighted and I imagine it will prove to be counter productive given the ad revenue they’ll no longer enjoy from the platform.

Will be a boost for the BBC comms though.

Loads of indian fans on the county streams.

Viewers will plummet. Lancs fans don't really seem too happy with the people running the club, sure this will alienate them further even if members get it included.

Bumble not happy with it and he'd have who they'd have wanted as one of their commentators for supposedly improved coverage.

I remember when they did this last season against us in the Blast. Scumbags
It was free you just had to sign up their website tbf

More comment onthe subs rule. Yorkshire have used 3 already.

The Aussie sub rules seem a lot better than ours for this season - only 1 sub allowed per game, it can only be made in the first 2 days of a game and the subbed player cannot play for 12 days (compared to our 8 days).

Leicestershire where the first to try it and got 25 subscribers for t20 match. They also thought they could use the BBC feed for the commentary.

Thought Kent went first? 🤔
I'm surprised they do it at all tbh. I think it's worth something and clubs are spending money on them and not getting anything in return.

The clubs make money from advertising from them.

Ajeet Singh Dale has picked up in an injury mid match for Lancashire and has been substituted, so will therefore miss the game against us

Been reading of another refusal on a sub. Lancs told they couldn’t replace right arm opening bowler Singh-Dale with right arm opening bowler Tom Bailey who was already on the field as 12th man. They had to ferry a lad from the 2s who was a left armer and can bat a bit, who was deemed a suitable replacement. The match referee on both occasions was Peter Such.

It seems that there either aren’t clear guidelines on this or Such makes his own up. Steven Croft reckons they use stats and experience etc to help determine a replacement. But he reckons this wasn’t mentioned when these regulations were formulated.

Once again, although the thought behind this was right, the application is terrible.
