Sir Brian Brobbey

In the 23 years post Quinn/Phillips there's been four strikers I've absolutely loved watching play for us and got me out my seat each week.
  • Darren Bent
  • Jermaine Defoe
  • Ross Stewart
  • Brian Brobbey
Honourable mentions to Gyan & Welbeck, but Brobbey's one of those who's just got that connection with the fans with how he plays. Love him to bits

I’d add Kenwyne at least to the honourable mentions, in his first season anyway. He was exceptional with his back to goal.

Great shout. I knew I'd be forgetting someone. Kenwyne with two working knees was electric

Love him! Absolutely dominates defenders every game, fantastic to watch the hardest CB's in the PL being bullied by our striker. 😎

There aren't many strikers in the league that would do a better job than him in our system.

From memory, he's only missed 1 chance where he should have definitely have scored. Can't remember who it was against, but he completely miss kicked it.

Poor game? He bossed it
As a team we defended pretty well today and totally bossed the game in the middle. But we were pretty poor in an attacking sense. He's been outstanding recently and did plenty of stuff very well today but his ball control and passing and lay offs weren't coming off today. Sadiki was motm and I'd put Brobbey second.

Something else towards the end of the second half, we were hoying crosses in from the right and Brobbey was stood ball watching, hands on hips each time. Only Onien made any effort to attack the ball. I think Brobbey was done by about 70 minutes, he had worked his pods off and should have been subbed sooner imo. There was a spell in that period when the game might have suited Wilson hanging on the half way line. As Spurs has everyone up in our half.

Aye, tired at about 70 mins

No way, he battled and won fouls and the ball against 3 defenders at times. Isidor done nothing every time he was on the pitch since the Liverpool&Man City misses.

Yeah because he did all that he was toast 20 minutes before the end. I agree entirely about Wilson by the way but perversely though the game was set up for him in that closing period.

I love the lad, I dont see how he gets much better.
Finishing.

He’s like a Heskey type striker - adds so much more value than just “goals” although I reckon Brobbey will have a more successful career in terms of top flight goals mind.

Was that hold up and lay off to Sadiki who tried to play in Diarra not in the last 20mins?

Do agree that he seems to be goosed after 70mins mind - although he still offers more than Isidor

Most strikers would be knackered playing up front after 70 mins for us to be fair

I've seen that a bit but when you consider the goals he's scored, i dont see how he improves that much. Some of his finishing has been absolute top class, cant think of that many when he should have done better other than Brighton.

From memory, it’s something that was labelled against him in Holland too.
It was, he was getting into too many physical duals. The expert coach who worked with him in Holland helped change that and it's been a feature of his games for us that the duals number has decreased significantly. Today though I think Spurs tried to target him, they were really trying to beat him up first half.

He is a Sunderland centre forward.

I’d play the ball into his feet at every single opportunity with bodies around him.
