Mathematical Safety

Sunderland have had a great season so far....does some people recall 96/97 campaign in which the club hadn't been in bottom 3 all season but played Wimbledon away last game and lost and went down on 41 or 42 pts? something like that but nxt season was charlton pens, following season was safc tearing up championship and established 2 7ths on the trot.

For Spurs to get 48 points they need to win all of these...

Brighton (H)
Wolves (A)
Villa (A)
Leeds (H)
Chelsea (A)
Everton (H)

Honestly don't see them winning 2 of those.
You are right, but the lad is saying, mathematically possible. However, I think it's also Mathematically possible for us to finish fifth.😁
The lowest we could probably finish now is 14th
? Spurs can get 48points, we have 46.

Not mathematically, but looking at the table now I can’t see us finishing any lower than 14th

We've got to out-perform Brentford Everton and Brighton by 2 points over 6 games to finish 8th and probably get a Euro place.

Villa Chelsea United Everton tough games for us

Wolves & Forest we have to be winning

Finished on 40 points that season

If Spurs won every game and got to 48 points, then next up it's West Ham. If they win all games they go to 50 points. Next up Forest who would go to 51. Next up Leeds. Who play Spurs and West Ham, so if they lost both of those their maximum is 48, if they win tomorrow. If they lose, 45.

If Leeds lose tomorrow the only way all three of those teams could catch or overtake us is if Leeds draw with Spurs and/or West Ham. If with Spurs both would end on 46 with us. If with West Ham, Leeds join us on 46 points and West Ham squeeze past on 47. If they draw both, just Spurs join us. Basically if Man Utd beat Leeds tomorrow we could only go down on goal difference.
