Mathematical Safety

Sunderland have had a great season so far....does some people recall 96/97 campaign in which the club hadn't been in bottom 3 all season but played Wimbledon away last game and lost and went down on 41 or 42 pts? something like that but nxt season was charlton pens, following season was safc tearing up championship and established 2 7ths on the trot.
This is the reason, I’ll never be happy until it’s mathematically impossible.

That was a horrible day.

We’d beat Chelsea if we played them next week. They are f***ing honking right now.
I fancy us to beat Chelsea in the last game especially if there's a Euro place at stake.

Anything we can get from Villa and United would be a bonus . The Everton game could be a Euro Conference League 6 pointer :)

This. If we manage to take it down to the last game with a chance to make Europe, it will have similar pre match build up to play off games - don't think Chelsea would fancy it at all

If Spurs won every game and got to 48 points, then next up it's West Ham. If they win all games they go to 50 points. Next up Forest who would go to 51. Next up Leeds. Who play Spurs and West Ham, so if they lost both of those their maximum is 48, if they win tomorrow. If they lose, 45.

If Leeds lose tomorrow the only way all three of those teams could catch or overtake us is if Leeds draw with Spurs and/or West Ham. If with Spurs both would end on 46 with us. If with West Ham, Leeds join us on 46 points and West Ham squeeze past on 47. If they draw both, just Spurs join us. Basically if Man Utd beat Leeds tomorrow we could only go down on goal difference.
I was thinking of working that out. Thanks for saving me the bother😂

surely someone would've announced this when it happened?
Somebody can probably work it out better than me but I think that Leeds still have Spurs and West Ham which would mean that all three can't overtake us.
Spurs have to win all 6 with us losing all six. Leeds need 13 points from their six but for spurs to win all of their six, Leeds would have to do that in five. West Ham need 14 from six but, again, one of those six is Leeds, so both can't take maximum points.
This is all working on the hypothesis that we lose all of our six, of course.

I need an official announcement, I have a dance planned. 🤣

Villa will be very tough but the hope would be they are tried from the Thursday evening. Obviously we will have a full week to recover.

Even a point would be a great result.

Leeds have 7 games, playing tonight

We’re only one point away from equalling Steve Bruce’s “miraculous” 10th place finish.

This will already be at the very least the third best season we’ve had in the premier league era. Still a chance to beat the two 7th placed finishes as well
1999/00 finished 7th on 58 points
2000/01 finished 7th on 57 points

Still a chance of reaching similar total like you say, but will take some doing to go 2 points per game for last six games.

You are right, but the lad is saying, mathematically possible. However, I think it's also Mathematically possible for us to finish fifth.😁

? Spurs can get 48points, we have 46.
And better goal difference. 2pts for us or one game not won by them would make it mathematically ever so slightly more certain than it already is and it really is.
I think it will probably need 39 points if Spurs put up any fight but it’s possible the bottom three is already the relegation trio.

Yes, probably. We will find at the end of the season that we were mathematically safe weeks ago probably. If you know what I mean.

With out using the super computer and Dianne Abbot to calculate, I still think we are safe
With the mags are only 4 point behind us using the above calculations they might even go down.
