They're in big trouble

Looking at the new SCR rules I think they are going to need major player sales this summer.

According to transfermarkt they have spent between £400-£450 million over the last 3 seasons. That gives them at least £80 million amortised costs to cover this summer and now all that money from Isak and other player sales is irrelevant. Combine that with their fall in revenue from missing out on champions league and potentially Europe altogether.

They will end up making the same mistakes they have been doing, they will sell 2/3 quality players and replace them with 2/3 players for similar money, one of which will probably flop. Then they will be stuck with a squad of about 15 players and as soon as they get any injuries will rely on the like of Burn and Murphy. They need to realise 1 x 90 million player will have less squad impact than 3 x 30 million players

Imagine it’s Bruno and Tonali man

Half of Tyneside will have to get their dogs name changed 😂😂😂

Aye I watched a minute
Bruno and Tonali, the best CM pairing in the world according to them. Imagine losing them both in the same window. 😮

I wouldn’t build ya hopes up. They’re the biggest bucket of shit, smelling of roses club in the country. Nowt worrying will happen, as much as we’d love to see it.
I think they’ll have to sell a player that’s attracting interest ie one of their better players. Tonali has one foot out the door, after that I agree they’ll probably find some loop hole or announce a new stadium to keep the natives at bay. However the whole Saudi situation of which Newcastle is but a pebble in isn’t as rosey as it once was and unless something clicks and they win something or get back into the champions league in the next 18 months I’d be surprised if they don’t wash their hands of them. Sportswashing seems to be slipping down the pecking order for them lately.

The pressure will be huge if they sell a big name and don’t replace them with similar. They don’t care about anything but names and this weird self inflated ego. Look at the summer they really thought they should be beating the likes of Liverpool and Man Utd to players 😂

They are in only in big trouble with respect to their own ambition of reaching the top 4 and beyond.

They still have income which is more than 12 current Premier League clubs and 3 coming up and the vast majority of world football. Add in some big sales and there will have a decent pot of cash to work with and decent pulling power given they were in the champions league this season.

So theres no real danger, but top 4/5 next year is not looking likely at present and they will need to have an amazing summer of recruitment to get that high up in table.

I expect them to change recruitment strategy to being more like Brighton getting to highly rated younguns in.
Fans wouldn't go for it

Maybe, but it's been a long time since what the fans wanted mattered a single fuck to football club ownerships. They might soil a few bedsheets, in every sense, if this does indeed become the business model, but they'll suck it up double quick for fear of offending their murderous overlords.

That club is a pandering engine in so many ways. The ownership are just as addicted to it as the fanbase. Building slowly from solid foundations - and ultimately accepting what they are as a club - is nowhere in the DNA for any of them I don’t think.

Thats a great video tbf.

I never realised how much shit they're in.

F***in fantastic
It’s mental how poorly they’ve been ran like. They’ve got about 6 or 7 players over the age of 30 with next to no resale value, 4-5 players with any sort of resale value and looking likely to go. Not one of the players they bought in the summer will return a profit. Their academy isn’t pulling up any trees with talent coming through. Every keeper they’ve got is a liability. They’re going to have to adapt a transfer policy like ours, which Howe won’t go for and they’re already pulling out daft loopholes to stay ahead of PSR.

He's decent but no better than Nordi. Although obv younger. They'll get a wad of cash for him
I suspect the fact he’s relatively young, English and one of few English born RB’s in premier league has contributed to hype and silly money being bandied around

I didn’t realise how knackered the squad is, they are in serious trouble:

Excellent.

Hopefully the Saudi's aren't fussed and just let Eddie crack on again this summer. The complete clip of the squad and the constraints over spending might well put off any decent candidates for the job, might attract a few big pay day mercenaries though. Loud Jaudi or whatever he's called mentioned the 2 previous DOF's but didn't talk about the new Sporting Director, Ross Wilson. He was hand-picked by Eddie as somebody he would be happy to work with (was head of football at Forest) so if Howe does stay, the dynamic around recruitment could be interesting.

Good watch that.

Their transfer business recently is absolutely woeful.

70m saint nick
55m Elanga
55m Wissa
40m Ramsey

Compared to

20m Brobbey
17m Sadiki
20m Le Fee
10m Mukiele

All four less than what they paid for Woltemade
Just skip to last paragraph to save reading the waffle.

They are cheaper but the mags are deluded in thinking they're shopping with the big boys, rather than the also rans in the Premier League. All those signings were 'decent' potential but the way Howe has them playing (and injury to Wissa) just hasn't worked. If it had then it would have meant more progress like previous seasons and more revenue to reinvest etc but instead they've kept and used other players in the squad that should have been sold and replaced with future players. As those 4 players haven't pushed the team on then it will be harder to compete with the big boys this summer transfer window if the big boys want a player the mags given no Champions League and even last season they struggled attracting players.

Just after the takeover, they actually made some good signings bringing in Bruno etc. Though back then it wasn't as hard a task to improve a team heading into relegation than it is to improve that team into a yearly Champions League challenger among the big boys with huge revenues.

They've hit their limit due to those failed signings and now they can't afford to keep buying £50m players hoping they find ones that fit and improve their team. They've now got numerous players that they either need to offload and start again or hope they can somehow get them playing again. They simply can't afford to buy duds as often as they have recently unlike Man Utd, Chelsea etc as the mags revenue simply isn't big enough to absorb the losses.

If they do sell Tonali, Gordon etc then they will lose their contribution so can they find players who are cheaper that will replace them or fit into a new system that isn't the intensive high press, counter attack tactic Howe constantly plays?

It's obvious they need to look at unknown or potential talent again but then like other clubs the players may not be what they thought and end up duds that weaken the squad options. I think it's just going to get worse as they can't compete with the big boys paying £200,000+ wages to top players that they will need to sustain being at the top of the league season upon season (or able to recover after bad season).

With the revenue they can get they should build a team that is good enough to consistently finish top 8 and pick off the odd European place along with decent cup runs rather than chasing the dream. They simple won't ever be able to do a Man City and build revenue channels to a level they need. They also won't catch the likes of Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal or teams in Europe such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, PSG etc, The game has grown globally over the last decade so the revenues those teams get can't be matched or hit regularly enough to maintain the mags having a high quality squad to play 50+, near 60 games a season.

Just like it has in the past, it will all go to shit eventually. It happened just before Ashley came in when Shepherd/Hall had been chasing the Champions League, Leeds in the 2000s chased the dream of being a top club, as did Blackburn but it faded away and more recently Leicester also started spend huge money on wages yet they're in a relegation battle. Chelsea and Man City did it as they had billionaire backing throwing huge money into the clubs to make them into a big boy club.

With the new financial rules, even though PIF haven't taken full advantage of investment, it's even harder now to throw silly money at players and wages. Even if the mags have the odd good season bringing in some Champions League money, they simply can't step up to the level they need to stay at the top and keep bringing in the big money.

Even now the mags have probably broken the UEFA SCR and will be fined and Villa are also pushing the limits of SCR. That means they can't offer increased wages unless they sell players for big money but then the players they lose need replacing or they'll suffer on the pitch.

Long story short, they can't play with the big boys and are stuck between them and the also rans in the PL. They certainly can have the biggest feed from the scraps leftover from the big boys when they have a poor season. If they constantly try to compete with the big boys then they will end up going to shit as it won't be financially sustainable. A section of their fan base are deluded and think they should be up there, originally stemming from being spoiled by the overspending in Hall era and again in recent seasons but this time due to rule changes it's ran out sooner than before.
