Well I will stick to the tradition of starting the championship match threads till we get beat. So after a draw in the opening match which Durham would have won if a full day's play had not been lost we travel to Bristol to play Gloucestershire. By the looks of it if Kent looked fairly ordinary then possibly Gloucestershire with their winter departures could be worse.
As far as Durham Xl goes if everyone is fit and ready to go i only see one change and that is somebody coming in for Ackermann who's shocking form from most of last season has continued into this. The obvious choice would be to bring in Rhodes (if fit and available) Although they may be brave and bring in a genuine 5th bowler but I doubt that.
I can't see the wicket at Bristol being as seam friendly as the one prepared at the Riverside and they are normally low and slow so it could be a slow.
Again this wouldn't be my Xl but I think they will go with

Possibly Parkinson instead of Rhodes if they feel they need a slow bowler to help take 20 wickets.
 

Campbell said in his post match interview that Parkinson comes into contention to play, they just gotta look at the wicket when they get down there and then decide

I mentioned the other week that Gloucestershire have lost a lot of bowlers from last year. Ajeet Singh Dale seems to be the biggest loss. Zaman Akhter and Tom Price other big departures. Their performance against Middlesex at Lords over the weekend fills me with a little more confidence but it will still be a tough fixture.

This. Their bowling attack has been really depleted and Singh Dale in particular will be a big loss. They have pretty much lost a full bowling attack with those 3 and Goodman leaving. Despite their performance at Lords over the weekend, their batting line up is fairly strong with Bancroft, Bracey, Charlesworth and Hammond, but they also had Chris Dent retire so they really do lack depth and this should be a game that we fancy ourselves winning.
 
On previous visits down there the pitch has spun a fair bit as they relied on their overseas spinner Gohar to take a good chunk of wickets, however I see they don't have him this year as he's with Middlesex and they haven't replaced him so conditions could be suited to another all seam attack.

Good on you for getting us up and running Wayne, will have a proper look at this later on and give my musings… in case anyone is arsed :lol:
 
Trouble is our spin options are dire taking wickets at a career average of 40 or the young Afghan lad who's been playing league cricket.

The back up seam options of the young lads are not ready plus Hogg is injured again Conners also takes he's wickets at 40.

It's worrying the lack of players coming through our academy something we have been brilliant at and selecting local talent.

The last time we won the title 9 of our players where born within 15 miles of the ground.

Hopefully Benks will help develop some batting talent as should Bunny with the bowling given that he himself came though our Academy when we were developing bowlers not only for Durham but England.
 
Echo what others have said regarding Gloucestershire, they’ve been decimated over the last year with outgoings and it’s likely to get worse before it gets better as Ben Charlesworth has announced he’s leaving at the end of this year too.

Got a lot of sympathy with the club and their supporters, but I hope our lads show them no mercy this week.

The weather and the umpires robbed us of a draw in the opener, so we really have to go hard at Bristol to get our first win on the board. We’re streets ahead of them in all facets of the game so it’ll be interesting to see what kind of wicket they prepare and what their tactics are.

If you believe long range forecasts, Saturday is likely to be totally washed out, with enough rain predicted on Grand National Day to trouble the start of play on Sunday too.

As others have said, if fit, Rhodes probably comes in for Ackermann. Depending on the wicket and the forecast they’ll probably have a serious think about getting Parkinson involved too, but it lengthens the tail so I’ve got no idea who will or should miss out in order to accommodate him.

What seems to be the reason why a load of players are leaving Gloucestershire recently? I know they aren't considered one of the big counties in terms of income but they get white-ball internationals every summer and have a pretty large catchment area, which is more than Somerset have who are just down the road from them.

The talents there it's just not coming through.
