Has Roefs got a sell on clause?

Alisson is injured again, and 33.
Donnaruma has turned into a bit of a liability, although just 27.
Sanchez is chod.
Courtois is 34 next month.

Some of those will be looking at Roefs, it'll be more than paper talk.
Watched the Real Bayern Match last night and thought I could see both of them wanting him.

There isn’t a more well rounded young keeper in the world right now. It’s the nature of the beast but he’s absolutely irreplaceable, hence why he’s being linked with big clubs for 60 million. Unbelievable signing for us!

Personally, I'd like to keep him for another season. Not sure how many points he's saved us, but it feels like he's far too important just to let go straight away.

60m is good, but if he has another good season, that could easily kick on to 80/90m next season and that gives us more breathing room to find another keeper or even give Ellborg another year to get up to speed.

Hopefully we keep him for another season, but if he does go I'm confident we will get a hefty sum for him.
In time I think Ellborg could be a capable replacement and we have Matty Young coming through the ranks.
Would probably need an experienced PL keeper for 1-2 years in the interim though..

If we make Europe and he does well in European competition for us next year, add another 20 million to his value.

Easy to underestimate the importance of a top goalkeeper in this league. I dont doubt they have contingencies for every player, but goalkeepers are uniquely exposed. Get it wrong and it is a disaster.
Agree with this. I reckon if we'd switched keepers with Wolves they'd have stayed up and we'd have been in serious danger of going down

Was mentioned in the papers few weeks back that he had a £40 million quid release clause
I don't believe that.

A young keeper with 42 games of senior football playing for a smaller Dutch side.

When we were the only team iirc credited with an interest.

How is he and his agent commanding a release clause.

Our approach to incoming bids will be about more than profit imo.

If the likes of Roefs, Sadiki etc. have been sold Sunderland as a springboard to a top team then we'll have to be true to our word, or else risk the whole thing falling about.

A 5 or 6 fold profit on Roefs will be incredible business, no matter how important he is to us. £60m is half of our entire budget last summer, it's a serious amount of money given our scouting set up.

Thus is really interesting article and shows how good he is dealing with corners and in fact showing the man keeping him out of the national side is nowhere near as impressive.

“Goalkeepers who leave their line regularly will make more visible mistakes than those who stay rooted to it. The more you enter traffic, the greater your risk of getting the timing wrong. However, the upside can be significant, and for Sunderland, Robin Roefs provides exactly that.

Roefs has been one of the most assertive goalkeepers in the league on corners, recording the highest combined total of claims and punches in the Premier League this season (63). Only Emiliano Martinez averages more successful claims per match (1.51 to 1.50), though Roefs shows a more even balance between catching (42) and punching (21).”

Some rough maths (assuming all contracts amortised over 5 years)

Sell for 60 million
less 10% sell on fees (this is a guess)
Less 7.6 purchase fee (9.5 million fee amortised a year)
Profit ~ 46 million

Important to remember there will be a big chunk (20% based on 5 year contracts) of last summers transfer fees to be amortised this summer meaning roughly 20-30 million needs to be covered every year for those 5 year contracts. But even if after that there is about 15 million left from the sale, that in theory gives you roughly £75 million spending power.

To spend north of £30-50 million this summer I think we’ll need a big player sale. Adingra won’t really realise that much profit, Isidor a little more but still not loads.

I haven’t been impressed with Ellborg personally, maybe it’s just how good roefs is that anyone I compare him to is going to come up short, but if we do sell we absolutely need to replace him imo and can’t depend on ellborg

Looks like we have a good relationship with chelsea , especially after the guiu ( sp) situation at start of season, so maybe sell to chelsea say £70m and loan back for 1 or 2 seasons would be excellent business
They're in no position to pay £70m for a goalkeeper and loan him back. It's probably their most problem position on the pitch

I don’t think there’s an experienced PL keeper I’d want who’s realistically going to come here. Top of my head I’d only take Pickford, Henderson, Raya, Martinez, Alisson. Ie the top of the pile.

If he does go, we’d likely start the season with Ellborg, bring in some experience to fulfill the ‘Moore’ role and then see if Young can surpass both of them.

Man City have got Donnaruma and Trafford so there's no need for them to come in for him.

Liverpool
Chelsea
Real Madrid
Bayern

Should all be looking at him.

We're in trouble if we started next season with Ellborg in goal.
