David Bruce leaving SAFC

He's supposed to be a right c*nt
Met him once n had a cardigan on so thats fair enough.
This is the sort of thing that I'm worried won't be prioritised when he goes. Only someone from Sunderland would give a shit about stuff like Heroes, Founders and Makers week.
What % of fans truly give a shite about stuff like this really?

There's an article for you to write up about, and agree it might be overlooked in the future

Beat you to it...
What % of fans truly give a shite about stuff like this really?

What % of fans gave a shite about the concourse redevelopment, with the murals of former players?

What % of fans gave a shite about the naming of the Jimmy Montgomery stand?

What % of fans gave a shite about the hummel kits and time capsule drops?

What % of fans gave a shite about the new state of the art audio/video system we have in the SOL?

What % of fans gave a shite about Legends Way?

What % of fans gave a shite about having a proper flag/banner group who are backed by the club (well, Bruce) to do whatever they want to do?

Etc etc etc. David Bruce's fingerprints are all over lots of the good stuff that we've done in the last few years - those are just a few examples of the top of my head.

Founders Week was very important in my view as not enough is done to make people aware of the people that brought this football club to Sunderland. Founders Bar - another Bruce idea - is there now and when you walk in the place there are signs all over about the formation of the club. Likewise, Heroes Week is tremendously important to a lot of fans who feel it's appropriate that we mark the occasion properly with a fitting tribute each November to the fallen. Sunderland's display this year was probably the greatest in the country and got loads of really positive attention from outside of the club.

All of these things matter and make our experience as fans better, in my view.

My concern is that only a proper Sunderland fan, who has the power to make these decisions, would get this stuff done. I'm not sure I'm looking forward to a more 'corporate' Sunderland.

Feels disappointing this. Could tell he was a sunderland fan from so much of what he's done. Will be a big miss. Would love to know why its come about.
Its a strange one ! your a fan, apparently doing a great job yet you move on within a relative short space of time !....something is afoot thats for sure and there are rumours circulating that whilst he has done a lot of deals: kits ,sponsors ect but the club hierarchy are not happy with the quality (moneys to the club)of those deals.....im sure the truth will come out eventually but on the surface it is very very odd!

My personal opinion is that if you have a competent person doing a job at any level at the club it is always better if they are a lifelong fan as well.

Im hoping the reason he has left is mundane such as his family hasn't settled or he has been head hunted rather than something amiss within the club !

As others have said this is somewhat concerning. Sure you can find someone with the right CV but you probably won’t be able to find someone who was such a positive force for the club

Thats a good, fair post mate. Some elements above will mean more to some fans than others but fair play.

What we vitally need is a fan within the abysmal ticketing setup too.

Think the merchandise part of these weeks will see them continue as it’s an opportunity to sell stuff, but the reason behind these weeks will probably be lost a bit

Our history is littered with people not from the area who have connected with the club. On the flip side, we've had plenty of locals who haven't seemed to fully grasp what the club means.

I don't think you have to be a 'proper' Sunderland fan to do any of what you listed. In fact, most of the things you listed have been tried one way or another previously, it's just Bruce has been better at implementing, aided undoubtedly by our on-field stability and success.

He's done an excellent job, he's a real loss (although I think I can see the logic behind the restructure). But, I'd expect any decent appointment to do their homework and connect with the area.

Supposition that DB fancied CEO position but didn't get it seems like the logical bet. But it is all supposition.
'Til The End" was a master stroke and should endure.

Excellent post
Too much of the hand wrenching seemingly because he is ( possibly ) being peddled and is local.
I care about how we do in premier games, the rest is window dressing
