Mukiele - Ballard - Alderete - Reinildo is our strongest back line imo

Hume wouldn't make my first XI, but it's so rare for the entire team to be fit, he's basically first in if anybody can't play

On paper that is definitely best back 4. But with Hume in the eleven it releases Mukiele (one of our best outlets) and also allows us to take up a 5 at the back too.

All about consistency for me, and Hume has been.

Over the last few weeks we've seen people go from writing Rigg off to saying he is in the starting eleven. You can flip that for Diarra. Then you've got people pushing Le Fee out wide left just to get him etc (he absolutely gets in by the way).

As I say, all about opinions, but as it stands, having seen what's gone before, I'd have him in more times than not.

He could do a absolutely do a job certainly. Find it odd that someone thinks he's been 'awful' right side of midfield tbh. I don't think he's been awful at all. In any position. I will say he had a stinker at West Ham, as a one off game. Along with the rest of them.

I'm not convinced Hume can do that midfield hybrid role tbh. I think he'd be great right side of a back three.

And you're entitled to that opinion sir. I think he's done it well for the most part. As we progress, and look to get the balance between attack and defence more even I can see more argument for him not making the 11. As it stands, Mukiele is one of the biggest threats going forward, and I think Hume is pivotal to that. I also like the fact with him there we can easily shift to a competent back 5 system. As you say, he can play as part of back three. But that depends on the manager set up/approach. I think it's conclusive he certainly gives options and flexibility. Very good player type to have.

I understand the flexibility he offered the team in that position, what I couldnt understand is how he was better suited to it than geertruida. The role he was playing required him to move into midfield at times and exposed his ability on the ball, yet we've a dutch international in his usual position, who is far better on the ball and has also played at the top level in centre midfield on the bench.

At the end of the day, RLB clearly knows more about football then me or anyone else on here, but I can't wrap my head around choosing hume for that role over Geertruida. As a RB or RWB in a game where we're expected to be on the back foot, I'd pick hume. But in a game at home to Burnley or Fulham, I'd prefer the player who is experienced in midfield and is better or the ball.

I get stick on these threads because people can be precious when it comes to Hume and think I'm slating him. I'd still have him as our 3rd best right back in the PL era, hes just at the club at the same time as number 1 & 2 in my opinion.
