David Bruce leaving SAFC


This feels different to the Speakman replacement. That very much felt like a like for like change whereas it’s a big jump to go from CBO to CEO

Bruce is a different problem entirely. A boyhood Sunderland fan who left a career at the top of the MLS to come home. You’re not finding that profile again. That person simply doesn’t exist.

And it matters because so much of what’s reconnected this club with its fanbase these past two years isn’t replicable by just hiring a competent CEO. A lot of it happened because it was Bruce.

Prefer we kept our best players ( regardless where they came from ) than lose sleep over local born pen pushers and money counters
We want the best people for the job and where they come is utterly irrelevant
If people don’t seriously think Bruce wouldnt have moved to a bigger job ( package, prestige etc ) if it was offered, they must still believe in Santa clause

Apparently according to earlier posts? he had financially more beneficial offers ( Chelsea ect )but left America ( where he was on a v good salary )to come here as it was his boyhood club -maybe his situation is unique ( and seemingly important as many fans can see the connection he has helped create between the boardroom and city /fan base )
 
I don’t understand what goes on behind the scenes at the club but am confident that decisions are made for the benefit of the football club. Similar to when Speakman left, the club and Bruce have spoken very well and everything appears to be oretty amicable.

Think he already had that in his previous job. It was because it was SAFC that he came here. I think on paper it was a backwards step (we were a championship club) but being a local lad and fan his heart ruled. Fair play to him, looks to have done an outstanding job so thank you.
 
Wish Bruce well even if some of his appointments were questionable.

He seems to have done a good job. However, any half competent person would have done. We were coming from such a low base that he couldn't fail to make a positive impression. It helped that he was a fan and hope we retain some form of fan knowledge within the leadership team.

This new ownership group runs the club from the board level and they appoint a permanent CEO to run the day to day side of things.

I’m not saying KLD is leaving at all but say someone came in at 30% it could likely dilute him down to less than 50% and all of a sudden the board setup and a CEO acting on behalf of the board makes sense

Have to trust the club I suppose, it's not the first time they've made changes whilst we appear to be doing well and it's came off.. At least they dont seem to be standing still
 
If it was Bruce who come up with all the no fucks given shithousery for the mags game, “Follow the Mackems” visitors on the scoreboard etc then I’ll be eternally grateful to him for showing them lot all the hospitality they deserve i.e. none.

I’m pretty certain he’s responsible for naming the Jimmy Montgomery stand and the lettering on the east stand. It might all seem small insignificant things but they help give a bland stadium a bit of character and a bit of pride about the place

He’ll be a sad loss
