Running Thread 2026

Love the idea of the goggins challenge. Are you running the same time as him or just taking it on yourself and thats convenient time? Please keep us informed how you do with this.
No just in my own time, 4 days over bank holiday seemed the best time so I could do it and rest up without taking time off work.

Last long run before the Manchester Marathon done this morning - managed to miss the Manchester rain by getting out early

Got 32km out at average 4:47km per km.

Hoping to bank a bit of time in the first half and then cling on to as close as possible to that pace ( or anything under 5min per km) on the way home
Aye. Mine arrived this morning - Green Zone. Better get training.
Purple for me. Good luck mate

Last long run for me today too - 20 miles. I’m well and truly out of my comfort zone signing up for this marathon, but I’m achieving things I never thought possible.

Not afraid to admit I was a bit emotional after finishing that this morning. When I signed up for this I was determined to beat the 6 hour cut off and purely finish the thing.

I did 20 miles today in 3:52 - that might not be groundbreaking for many but it’s huge for me! To potentially be able to finish sub 5 was never ever on my radar

All about the finish line mate, not the finish time. Imagine how good it will feel, after all the effort you have put in, crossing that finishing line. Enjoy it mate ( as much as you can when you feel like your toes are going to drop off)

I'll be over the moon if I can get anywhere near that pace on the day, you must be going for a good time.

I have Garmin but my other half has coros after previous Garmin. She found them much of a muchness but the battery life on the coros is significantly better. Enjoy your stats 😃
Your OH would be very right on the battery life. I've had this on every day, faffed about with the settings, recorded work outs etc... and it's only gone down ten percent in three days. I'd have charged my apple watch ten times in three days 😂 I'm going to test the maps/navigation properly tomorrow and get myself out for a run - my first in god knows how long.

Jesus thats shifting thats my 5K pace when doing a parkrun and pretty much me flat out (without tearing calfs / hamstrings) - fair play and good luck in the marathon

Anyone doing the North Tyneside 10k this Sunday?

Enjoy taking part in this run.

Nice scenic run along the coast.

Managed six miles in an hour, which I think is okay considering that's my first run since January 2025 and that was only one mile 😂 I could feel my outer knee starting to flare up, so didn't want to push any further and just walked to remainder of the way.

10k in an hour is very good considering you haven't done any running for over a year. Have you been doing other cardio in the meantime?

I haven't done any kind of real exercise for around a year, to be honest. I also have a fairly sedentary life at the moment, as I spend the majority of my day sat behind a computer monitor. Now the lighter nights are here, I'm going to try do 5k every night and the odd 10k thrown in, just to keep me ticking along.

Regardless of your age take at least one rest day, I'm an old 50 year old fart and only do 3 runs a week then a couple of non-impact days (strength, spinning, swimming) and take two rest days. Running everyday chances are youll get injured

As a practicing sick note - don't over train and apps like Runna or chatGPT are invaluable I just used to do 4-5 runs a week and just have a goal of about 6 mins a Km then as I'm training for something use a more structured plan, touch and go if my calf lasts the Sunderland half, although Ive looked at the course and it looks crap mind. (First ever half event)
