O'Nien

He is man, for goodness sake stop flogging the dead horse. He’s not a first choice but he’s a valuable part of a Premier League squad relied upon by our Head Coach to come in and do a job when required.
He be sold in the summer specially if the club’s ambition is to get in to Europe need better players

Weird part of our fan base is instantly hostile against anyone who isn’t absolutely class at football, despite giving 100% and doing a pretty good job. It’s like they can’t wait to tear things down.

Maybe other teams fans do the same but I’ve never seen it.
We should not let perfect be the enemy of good. Ballard is as close to perfect as a CB as we could have hoped for but O’Nien is still good.

Thing with o9 is that he's a smart lad and a grafter.

He's always improving and working on his game, which is why I imagine RLB has started utilising him again. I'd love to compare him now to when he signed.

Dunno what his contract looks like but I could see him extending again. He loves the club, he knows his role and he seems to love us as much as we love him.

Add to that he's a constant source of good news around the club

Love Luke me 😎
Another season I think. I think he’ll see it out and then it’ll depend where we are as to what happens. He deserves to go on his terms to be honest, an absolute stalwart in good times and bad.
Took a lot of bottle to put that error behind him and turn in such a battling performance.

It was the right move to let the likes of Patterson and Neil move on, but I'm delighted that O'Nien managed to get his moment in Premier League. Fairy tale stuff.
I was pleased McPhail got his top flight appearance but that was pure sentimentality whereas O’Nien has contributed positively to two great away wins and is genuinely capable of putting in a performance at this level.

He doesn't get injured much. Played shit full of games last few years when others were injured.

Only his shoulder pop caused an issue, and he played through that for ages. Very reliable and top club captain , and you could see what he means to others on Sunday.

He also played through a season with that shoulder issue, not many footballers would put the team first before themselves.

He’s proved me wrong , I didn’t think he’d be this level.

However I wouldn’t be surprised if this season is his last with us.

Still a legend though.

No, he gifted the Visitors with a goal on Sunday.

The game at Leeds he tried his best to give them a penalty by grabbing someone in a headlock.

Then he got sent off after only a couple of minutes at Liverpool.

Try and name a Premier team where he would start?

Hes out of his depth.

After the blunder, he didn't put a foot wrong against Newcastle.
He's stepped up magnificently.
Obviously I still loved him (Reggie), but I actually blamed him (Reggie) more than I did O’Nien for that goal in the pub just after it happened and up to half time. Still do tbh. Yes it was a shit mistake, but we’ve been playing that tactic and being too casual at the back for way too long imo and I feel like we’ve had a few close calls so it was only a matter of time before we got punished. First 10-20 minutes into an away derby when their players were camped on our 18 yard line was absolutely not the time to be doing it. Fair play to both of them after that though, Reg turned it round and had us play brilliant in that second half and I don’t recall O’Nien doing owt wrong at all after that.

We know where we stand with O’Nein. He’s not a world beater but boy he tries. In a long hard season you need squad players who train hard and are committed and will come in when you’re missing a few players and do a job. Most players are not happy to do that you get the feeling O’Nein is realistic and is thankful for every minute he gets. He’s played 90 mins in away wins at Leeds, fair play albeit his mistake on Sunday and his rugby tackle at Leeds on other days would have ended up in very different outcomes.

You forgot the sending off at Liverpool.

I think the lads sets a standard in fitness, training and attitude as well as patience when not in the starting frame. His influence and example to the youngsters coming through is worth his squad place imho. I also think he hasn't let anyone down either when called upon. Hope he stays next season.

You can be the fittest, strongest, most intelligent, tallest etc squad but if you haven't got heart it'll get you nowhere.

Absolutely every club needs heart. Every team sporting or otherwise needs heart.

Plenty of badge kissers out there but this lad loves this club as much as we all do. Maybe more. He plays like he owes the club a debt and like he means it.

Fair enough he's not an elite player but he's absolutely worthy of a squad place on his ability and invaluable because of everything else he brings.

Superb attitude. Loads would have sulked at losing the team captaincy last season. Didn't look like he was going to play but sucked it up and grafted his place into the team. Could have kicked off with the lack of game time this season but just knuckled down so he was ready when needed.

Harp on about him not being PL standard as much as you like. It's irrelevant as he's so much more than that.

Can't see the club getting rid of him this summer unless he actively wants to go. Has shown enough in his few appearances this season to suggest that he can be a perfectly adequate squad player at this level and he's clearly a massively positive influence behind the scenes.
