Sunderland railway station.

Why does it need daylight or a second platform?
Mainly due to the ridiculous situation with the Grand Central trains having a small "window" to access the platform in between the metros to South Hylton and trains to Boro.
So passengers with luggage, some of whom are elderly all pile on the train and put their luggage away and sit down before the train departs 2 or 3 minutes later. With an extra platform the train could arrive and sit at the platform for 10 minutes or so to avoid the last minute pile on.

Once got caught out by that, my auntie is disabled so helped her on with the bags whilst my Dad waited outside the station. Got her on, sitting down and her bag/case sorted.

Next thing it starts pulling away, guard seen the funny side, mind. Got off at Hartlepool then had to get the Northern rattler back.

Yep, exactly the point I'm making.

Finding your carriage, getting your luggage in the racks, finding your seat, all in a 2 minute window before the train pulls away.

Inevitably people struggle to get cases in luggage spaces meaning those behind can't get past them to their seats.

It was horfible before mate. Absolutely vile

Aye, didn’t need to be levelled though.
It had actual businesses in there.
Just smarten up in the exterior and push the money into transforming the interior.
Could have made it no worse than the entrance to the typical tube station in London which is absolutely fine.

It’s true though
Could have kept it as it was with the businesses there at least open and paying rent. Just spruce up in the inside and exterior.
It's now just an empty corrugated iron shed.
But the attitude of some is to be grateful for anything even if it’s crap.
The old one was falling apart , the roof leaked constantly and was awful

All we need is the units filled and this will look far better

The ‘artwork’ brightens it up a bit but think it’s a lazy idea to just put a few generic photos up of destinations. Would love some unique artwork that represents the city. kr.Illustrates or Frank Styles would be good.

It’s not great, but it’s a huge improvement on the old station, that was the worst one I’ve seen.

Needs to be a tourist info point there’s with what Sunderland has to offer and what’s on. Some joint up work/ discount with local businesses.
