Running Thread 2026

It was Woodhouse Moor's (Leeds) 900th parkrun today, apparently making it one of the first in the world to reach that milestone. 792 runners and I was third finisher :D

I was also first finisher at Temple Newsam last week. Not wanting this to sound like a brag, just happy with how my running is progressing since joining a running club last summer. I'd highly recommend it 👍
Insane that! Well done and definitely echo the running club point.
Manchester marathon training going well. It’s my first marathon and living in the city, I’m really looking forward to it. 30km today at race pace, new shoes arrive this week and first time I’ve used gels during my training block. Fingers crossed training carries on this way!!

Doing Manchester mate?
30k at race pace during a training block?! Wowza. If you smashed that, I reckon you’re in for a surprise on race day, you’ll be flying!

Nice one, sounds like you’re putting the work in! I’m no trainer but a 30km at race pace during a block doesn’t sound wise mind 😂 you’ll need a few days recovery after that at least! But genuinely rooting for you, wish I was doing it!

Wanted to go for a marathon race this year but the timing of my half marathons and other races is making it difficult to squeeze in to find the time to train for it.

I’ll be tapering off 3 weeks out from the race. Most difficult part I find is settling into my pace , once I’m in and hitting that time over a constant number of KMs, I seem relatively comfortable.

It does take a lot of time though and I’m not letting it encroach on family life, so on my long weekend runs I’m up early, quick coffee and settle for an hour. Out on my run, back and showered by 11:30/12

Good luck with your races mate

Imagine that’s just the fatigue mate, I feel the same in this HM block. To a couple of k’s to get there and once I was there I was gliding along nicely.

Thanks - will be keeping an eye on your results too 👌

13.1 mile today for my long run in the build up to the Manchester marathon.

Managed to pb my half marathon time so happy with that, but reality hit about how hard it’s actually going to be in 6 weeks time.

Excited for the experience but shitting it that I’m not gonna be ready. Not bothered about times, just want to finish it

Finished the kingdom of Northumbria ultra yesterday in just under 8 hours. As a slightly overweight, anaemic 53 year old female who couldn't run a mile 4 years ago I'm pretty chuffed with that. However I think my ultra career may be successful but short lived. No desire to do it again 🤣🤣🤣.
If anyone is thinking about it the race was lovely however I totally misjudged the effect the terrain (rather than the distance) would have on me. Was honestly knackered after 25k. Really needed more hilly trail training but as a female I don't feel comfortable going out alone and friends that run these distances are much faster. Nevertheless I did it 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️.

This is what got me last year.

I had visions of 35 miles of lush, flat terrain along the cliffs.

I really wasn't expecting the actual route. Absolutely down to me not planning and being more prepared.

The difference in ground, the ups and downs took everything out of me.

That is why i said to you previously that I had to call it quits at 25 miles:lol:

Anyway, you went further than me and completed it. Very well done.

I had a friend join me at 27k (he's training for the wall) and having company/chatting helped massively in distracting from the discomfort. If you giving it another go at any point definitely worth trying to get a running partner.
The problem with marathons and ultras is you too exhausted to hang around and celebrate afterwards - unless you're super fit 🤣. I went home and went to bed.

Hmmm, I do have unfinished business with it.

I understand what you are saying about distractions but I much prefer running on my own.

I enjoy having the odd natter to a fellow runner now and again but couldn't run with someone.

has anyone used the Runna app ld at work swears by it and I'm looking to start traing for the Sunderland 1/2 this week, I can already do 10K's without feeling knackered so thnk just a bity of structured trainging would help

Had it for a year, was canny. Haven’t renewed it. Feel the likes of ChatGPT can put a pretty decent block together for you if you’re already running.

Runna is great that it comes through the watch and earphones etc but I just found it to be a little dull after a while.

I can understand why people swear by it, I didn’t have a club/coach at the time and it helped me to a couple of pb’s (that I’ve subsequently beaten recently).

I've used it for a structured plan for my marathon in April - been a massive help to me as a relatively new runner.

Fastest 5k in a long while today, pretty decent considering the wind....sub 20 still a fair way off like.

Nice long run on Friday, some Padel on Saturday then an easy week ahead of Valletta 10k next Sunday. Early forecast is pretty warm but also raining 😓 hoping for a time around 43mins then off to a bar to watch the derby.

Goggins 4x4x48 pencilled in a couple weeks after over the Easter weekend

Just been for a run around Lambtons estate. Only 5.5 mile but found it a right slog, some canny hills and this wind is a right pain in the arse
Thats part of my standard route, not massively into the depths but on the edges between bournmoor and Shiney - its a lovely treck about

I nearly pulled a hamstring just thinking about sub 20....Ive only ever managed one sub 25 but I was close last park run. No more silly fast runs as in the Sunderland half soon for my first ever half
