Safe Standing extension

I'm prepared for the pelters this opinion will attract but I really struggle to sympathise with anyone who has purchased a season ticket in the SWC or Roker End in the last 15 years who has an issue with persistent standing. These areas have had the same reputation for years and years, its not a new "problem" and having to stand in these areas shouldn't come as a surprise. Too many people want to be in the noise instead of creating it and want the perfect world where they can sit (and expect everyone else around them to also sit) whilst simultaneously being part of the loudest part of the stadium. It doesnt work like that.

My main point was around folk being able to see all of the pitch rather than anything to do with atmosphere. I'm happy enough to sing/shout/roar while sitting or standing. For a good atmosphere we need the whole ground joining in anyway.
Fair enough, but somebody said on a different thread about this maybe that they were looking into doing something with the wheelchair areas so that in theory, the lower sections could be turned into standing as well without it impeding people’s views. Standing ends look much better when it’s behind a goal, and can definitely impact matches more (assuming they actually make noise as well). You’re never going to get a whole ground singing in unison all the time, but good ground wide atmospheres aren’t usually about singing - they’re about general noise, cheering and roaring like earlier in the season and for a few minute spells on Sunday when we actually pressed. Proper singing ends though can keep the noise going when there are lulls in other parts of the ground.

The club still have some work to do on migration/overcrowding in the south stand too.

The seat next to me there’s about 6 lads into 3 seats every home game. It doesn’t really bother me as they do their best to stay within their own 3 seats, but it’s definitely still happening.

Agree but the club have to forewarn people, this is coming from a club that had such a hard on for people standing in that stand they made it a sport of tossing people out for standing while cracking down on it no stop for years. People need to be told prior to renewal if their seat is going to be changed so they can make a move.

They sent a survey out to people in those areas towards the end of last season. Asking whether you would be interested in them extending the safe standing.

Given they've gone ahead with it, its a relatively safe assumption that the majority of respondents wanted it.

I do feel for the lasses that sit in front of us as they struggle when the early leavers hang around in the walkways, but theyre in the front row of the section so should be able to continue to sit.

Edit, it might have been the season before, the old memory isn't what it used to be.

Just been to the ticket office there because I was given the wrong price category for my season ticket , should of been the lowest but was given the highest, all been sorted now, I asked the woman about the safe standing in the south west corner, she said that it hasn’t been confirmed yet what rows are getting done and everyone that will be effected will receive an email about the changes to their seat.
