Safe Standing extension

Not everyone there stands granted yes a lot do but rather than just dropping it on people as season ticket renewals start they should of at least given them a heads up so people could make an informed choice
Do you sit there? If not, why worry about it mate? I think everyone in that area stands as it is, therefore it will be welcome. It changes nothing, you can still sit in a safe standing section. Not that anyone will.

Personally I hope it filters down to the front areas to encourage people to stand and get behind the side.

No i sit in the SE corner but forgive me for actually thinking about fellow fans and not just myself and what i want. Yeah you can sit but wont be able to see so will be forced to stand even if you dont want to

It would be complex , but the right thing to do would have been -

1 - email every ST holder in the effected blocks a couple of weeks back and tell them thier seat is about to become a Safe Standing spot. Ask them to respond if they don't want to be in that block anymore, register Thier group for a move , and don't renew in the initial phase

2 - once the initial renewal phase ends, open a period for seat relocations for every person who has renewed , including the now available seats in the new safe standing area

3- once that period ends , contact the people who you put on the list in step #1 who didn't want to be in the safe standing, and show them the stadium plan with all available seats , and give them a window of time to chose their new seats.

4 - open up any remaining seats to new ST holders

If I was ticket office manager, that's what I would have done . And I would have been courteous and helpful and sympathetic to the people effected

What are you thinking, everyone is allowed to swap seats except those in the south west corner who have had safe standing thrown upon them ?
I don't understand your reply, my post was regarding the fact that I know of grandparents and children that are in the SWC, they prefer to be seated, with safe standing they won't be able to see if sat, is there anywhere for them to change their seats to as a group?

Don't you be coming here with your common sense solutions.

I'm guessing (in lieu of any official line from the club) that they'd be best off renewing their seats now, and then applying for a seat relocation after the renewal window closes.

I've got no idea how that process will work or even if it's possible..

We are wanting to move one seat from the south east corner into our east stand block but have no idea if it's even possible

It's wild that this even needs be written. It's both the most common sense and blatantly obvious solution. How could they get this wrong?

You're getting angry over nothing mate. People already stand in that area, it makes total sense.

I do however agree that they should have confirmed the decision prior to renewals, but I don't think it would have affected anyone in the area considering they already stand.

I assume it's a decision that's been made fairly recent and they'd rather press ahead with the works now rather than delay it another season in fear of being forced to close the area due to persistent standing.

Safe standing needs to be the entire south stand imo.

Those there who would prefer to sit would of course need to be well looked after and moved in their groups, and if where applicable be discounted a ‘better’ seat elsewhere so they aren’t out of pocket.

As someone has already mentioned it’s tight for space, the rails need to be integrated inline with the seats.

I remember getting an email/questionnaire when we were in the swc about making it safe standing which obv they now intend to do, but isn’t there a minimum age requirement for safe standing, sure there’s no under 16’s allowed currently?

Therefore the question is should that be the case, what will happen to all the kids currently sat in those areas, with it now being a sell out for season cards where could they possibly move them to?

Agree, would take allot of organising but achievable, improving the atmosphere really needs groups standing together so if the club could facilitate those who would want to move to stand and those who would want to sit, you could have a class full standing end with people knowing that end will be boisterous, then if your easily offended or want a quieter experience there’s plenty other options

Makes more sense to me, in terms of line of sight, for it to be the upper section of the south stand and include the SWC and SEC upper sections rather than including any lower sections.

If we are serious about improving atmosphere it needs to be the full upper and lower sections of those stands imo , it’s still not a huge percentage of the ground in scheme of things

Nah that’s way too spread out and is part of the problem we have now seeing as the SWC has also already stood and been a noisy part of the ground for years and years. I’m in the left most block of the South Stand (block U39) which is in the middle of the SWC and the rest of the South Stand standing parts (blocks U38 and U37) and every single match at various points, the SWC will be singing a different song to blocks U38 and U37 to my right. Would only be worse if you spread it any more. It’s why away ends like Wolves are shite because it’s so spread out and the end is never singing the same song.

Different if we had a sloping down roof like the away end at our place because the sounds bounces straight back down off that so sound carries better. With the sloping up roof of the South Stand and SWC, this doesn’t happen. Definitely need to find a way of introducing it to the lower sections to create a bit of unison and more bunched up like the old away end was if you had 3k that came and stood in the lower and upper sections. It’s also why away ends like The Hawthorns are good for generating atmosphere because you have 2-3 blocks on the top and same on the bottom, tightly bunched up so everyone can hear the same songs at the same time.

They did that with the south stand tbf. They called it the singing section, then loads of people moved who want to be in the noise, not create it.

My main point was around folk being able to see all of the pitch rather than anything to do with atmosphere. I'm happy enough to sing/shout/roar while sitting or standing. For a good atmosphere we need the whole ground joining in anyway.
