Forthcoming gigs.

Good but disappointingly quiet.

Yeah I thought that, glad to know it wasn't just me. First time I saw them in 2014 it felt like my legs were gonna buckle from how much the floor was vibrating, never heard noise at a gig like it when they played Batcat at the end that night. Felt like it was a lot louder in 2024 last time Mogwai were at the Glasshouse as well.

Think half the room still jumped when they jolted back into Fear Satan halfway through the song tonight mind  was probably the loudest part of the set.

Enjoyed Mogwai. I'd agree with the comment solid and possibly not as loud as their last appearance in same room but was loud enough for me. The audience were great. Heard no chattering around me through the quieter parts. That plagued their Leeds gig for me last year. It probably helped that it wasn't a weekend.
Found Forest Swords to be a mixed bag. Some of his set was very good but some was a bit too much like club music.

Been to a couple of gigs at The Grove recently (Black Honey last week, and As December Falls yesterday). Sound (most the vocals) have improved a bit, IMO.

Been to a lot of smaller venues recently and The Grove is probably one of the better ones I’ve done.
Decent layout, small but as you say, sound was quite good.

Thought As December Falls were really good too, only went cos my mate likes them and he wanted to go.

Ive never been, dont agree with it. I can't imagine that the entire area including the venue are boxed off, but maybe it is. The idea that a public area paid for with public money can they be monetized for private ventures is pretty shitty imo
It's a great earner for councils etc plus the local people are using the space .
Gigs happen in parks everywhere
Herrington Park ,
What about burger vans making money on streets ? Your streets

Anyway it's a paid ticket event .

I think it's a bit different when it's a section of town people use to walk through, or eat/drink at businesses in rather than an out of town park.

Similar to Sunniside ,we're creating spaces to use as and when for everyone. Skating rink ?
Council initiatives are a bit different to private but the council gets a slice . Surely the hotel investments were in lieu of events like this .

Barry Hyde absolutely fantastic tonight at Redhills, with the Durham Miners Association Brass Band. I really like his 'Miners' Ballads' record (which is what they performed) though it's not got any brass on it!
Barry Hyde has posted this on his facebook page:

Last July I had one of the most amazing musical experiences of my life at Redhills in Durham as part of Durham Brass. YOU CAN STREAM THE ALBUM ON THE LINK BELOW!! I played the entire Miners' Ballads album accompanied by the wonder Durham Miners' Association Brass Band, it was an unforgettable evening. It's difficult to put into words but the best way I can describe it is to say that it was how I imagine clinging to the top of a locomotive as it speeds down the railway track. A challenging and exhilarating musical adventure! And LOUD!! The gig couldn't have happened without some key people! Thanks to Sue Collier, Stuart Gray, Heather Ward and everyone that was involved in making the show happen. And the band of course! Special thanks to Steve Robson, who worked as an arranger on the project. I learned so much from our collaboration and certainly there wouldn't have been a show without Steve's tireless passion and amazing skills and talent! Thank you Steve!! So yeah, here it is, Miners' Ballads (Live at Redhills) check it out!
