Early leavers and final whistle on Sunday

I'm a season ticket holder in the North Stand, when Fulham scored their third goal their fans were singing is this a fire drill, I was raging that's exactly how it looked as our fans exited in their droves, were better than that, we were poor yesterday but this team deserve a bit better than that on their efforts this season.
It genuinely baffles me, i can't wrap my head around it. My thought process is, i've allocated the time it takes a match to finish, into my day, yet to a LOT of people, they can't wait to be away. Surely when you go to the match you just accept that you're going to be there till the final whistle and allocate that portion of your day to it. Admittedly a very small proportion of people might need to get away for urgent things, work etc. But not thousands. What is SO important (drink, seriously?) that it can't wait another 15 minutes? I never even contemplate getting up and walking out, it never enters my thought process, but even if it did, i'd be too worried i was gonna miss something. Imagine yesterday walking out and missing a dramatic comeback, or a class goal or something.

My money is on the fact that, not just at ours, but up and down the country, the football match isn't the main reason people go out of the house. It's just something they endure till they can get on with whatever else they're out for.

And for those wanting to avoid traffic? Would sitting in traffic for another half an hour really ruin your life that much?

Unfortunately a large proportion of the crowd are pissed up and more interested in their next pint than staying to watch a game of football, that should be the main purpose of their day. However the main purpose of a lot of people's day is drink first, football as a secondary passing thought. Such is modern society. You see it all around me in people's behaviour, and especially when we're not playing well and losing, it becomes fairly obvious the ones who are inebriated. And it's never more pronounced than at half time when they have to get away on 30 minutes for their next drink (despite there being 7 minutes of injury time, meaning they miss even more of the game, and players are playing for even longer in front of a half empty stadium). And then again on 80 minutes you hear "haway shall we go get a pint" and it all happens again. You can't tell me it's not drink related as i see and hear it with my own eyes and ears. The fact people can't wait an extra 15 minutes at the end of each half before their next fix will always be a mystery to me, and that's not mentioning those who can't go 90 minutes without a vape.
Happens around us every game. Same people who sit in the middle of the row. Everyone has to get up to let these twats in and out and missing some of the game.

Hopefully they will get an aisle seat next season or move somewhere else completely.

Here’s a question, I’ve had a season ticket since the 06/07 season and on average miss no more than 1 home game a season. Currently sitting on 81 loyalty points after doing almost all away games over several years. I’ll also be one of 1,300 heading down to Bournemouth next week. I left after 92 minutes yesterday (first time I’ve left a game early in years). Am I a part time fan should I not be able to renew next season because I left a game a few minutes early? Because I can almost guarantee the people complaining about early leavers sit on their hands all game anyway and think they deserve a medal because they stayed till full time. Give owa man.

Yeah you can't renew your season ticket, sorry like.

Did you see the (pre-fulltime) Tottenham banks of empty seats yesterday?

People still with the excuses ah it was a Sunday, it was 2 o clock, it was on sky, I needed to get home for the X factor, load of shite terrible support extension not needed

Going to the match can be a reason to go out and see your mates for the day. Aye, you could not go to the match and still go out with your mates in place of the match but we all know that wouldn't happen. People use the match as regular, scheduled reason to get out with thier mates / family / kids and enjoy the whole day out . Missing the last 10 mins of a game that they are bored of won't mean that much. If there's nothing riding on it , leaving 10 mins early can mean getting a table in the pub to meet your mates so the bairns have somewhere to sit for instance, there's loads of things at play. The obviously support Sunderland, as do loads who don't go to the match, but it isn't life or death for them. When the third went in yesterday you could see people think 'ive seen enough " and be happy to leave . I'm not sure how you change that.

I reckon if we had a 25,000 seat stadium that was impossible to get tickets for , you'd see a lot less of this

That's the mentality i'm talking about though, that "i've seen enough" attitude. Well no you haven't seen enough, because it hasn't finished yet.

A football match in its entirety should be the main focal point of everyone's day out, be that with mates or not. I know what you're saying, and we all think differently, but my way of thinking can't understand theirs.

I don't get it and I never will, Despite the plethora of excuses the leave early brigade or sympathisers come up with. I can sort of understand it for people with little ones on night matches, but for a Sunday 14:00 kick off. Madness. Or maybe if it was 4-0, but it was 3-1, anything could have happened those last 5 minutes plus injury time. It looks rank

Are these 'twats' going out early before half time and coming back when the second half re-started?

They did in the SEC and some bearded bloke bit like fuck and tried to get to the lad who shouted about beating the traffic. Made himself look like a complete arse, offering the lad out at the next home game and stuff. Shouted that he lived 30 mile away too 😂
Was that U13?

Cos I was right by that and he was an absolute tit

There's a large proportion of our fans who are itching to leave the match before the final whistle for some reason, I hear them around me - "Let's give it til 85 mins then we'll head off" and so on. There's always an excuse. The other week it was because it was a night match and people had to be up for work, this week it was because we were 3-1 down and the game was gone (even though there was 15 mins left) etc.

Not sure what can be done, seems ingrained now. I suppose the first step would be for the early leavers to be honest about why they leave, is it literally just to save a bit of time in traffic? Are people more interested in squeezing an extra pint in?

What got me yesterday was with injury time to be added there was still 25 minutes to play, if we had scored soon there could've been a chance of a point marra, this season we've proved we're not beat till the end.

The population's attention span is getting shorter and shorter. This is just the football manifestation of scrolling onto the next thing on your phone.

That’s the problem with transport up here. People don’t want to spend an hour travelling because the traffic is a nightmare. In London it’s different — you can jump on the Tube in loads of different ways and you’re guaranteed to get home quickly.
But in Sunderland? It’s much harder. You can’t blame people for leaving early when the travel situation is that bad.
That something need to look into it.
Me, drive home and I live in darlington. Traffic was so bad when the game is finished. I need to go early to get in time for me to go home and another activity I need doing on the day.
