Early leavers and final whistle on Sunday

Absolutely pathetic the exodus after there 3rd fair enough beat the traffic, go for a pint etc etc but the top and bottom of it is it’s the same people who will have stayed until 10-15 mins after full time v West Ham when it was party time so for me you might as well stay “till the end” as the saying goes.

When the club is trying desperately to build a connection with the fans, which it did successfully with the 'til the end campaign and the generally positive relationship between players and fans this season, it must be galling for the players who are trying their hearts out on the pitch to see thousands not prepared to support their team until the final whistle.

It's not like a film where if you don't like it you leave the cinema early or skip a song if you don't like it on Spotify. This is our football club, it's different from any other form of consumerism, the whole point is there's an irrational love for an institution which, in Sunderland's case, would have lost virtually all support in recent years if it was simply about the product on the pitch.

Even if was just about 'the product', it's now at its best for a generation and there have also been lots of late goals this season so that argument doesn't stack up either.

People who consistently leave early are generally consumers, not supporters, who don't epitomise what supporting the club is really all about. It's almost become a badge of honour to leave early ffs. Support the lads 'til that end.
Nailed it marra. The consumers can feck off.

The tale as old as time. The crowds are so large now that we will always have early leavers just like any club. The hardcore stay to the end, there’s nothing can do about people leaving though.

People can do what they want, but it looked absolutely terrible, we played the last 12 minutes or so with about 20k in the ground. Like I say, it's a free country but it's absolutely shite support. It's not like we were 6 nil down, there was a genuine chance of us still getting a result.
Till the end???? not for a good half of yesterdays crowd.

It was a bad day all-round.

9 minutes added time when the match was already effectively lost rubbed salt into the wounds.

It was sad to see so many leaving before the end but after such a poor match i wasn't surprised.

It felt like I had been transported back to some of the bad old days yesterday. What a shame after such a good start to the season. The SOL has been the best place on earth at times this season but we are in a slump.

Ultimately performances on the pitch are the only way to make sure the majority stay till the end. Lets hope the players can reset and go again for everyone concerned.

Theres a fans meeting on Thursday with the club where im sure this will be a topic of conversation

Unfortunately we can talk about it as much as we want , but there is very little that the club can realistically do

It's absolutely ingrained into 1000s of fans that they want to "go to the match " but also don't really care that much about the football when it's a bog standard game , and don't really have the patience to sit out the last 15 mins when we behind by 2 goals

I agree we need to do something, out of any club in top 2 divisions we have the worst reputation for “Fans” leaving early and that strangely is Win, lose or draw……. Let’s get behind the lads Til the end !
There was a video released last week that we had the 4th most loyal fans for staying until the end. It's a football stereotype that we are the worst for it, just like Newcastle/Liverpool have a great atmosphere etc. If you look at Brighton matches, if they bother to turn up in the first instance, most of them are gone well before full time.

Unfortunately a large proportion of the crowd are pissed up and more interested in their next pint than staying to watch a game of football, that should be the main purpose of their day. However the main purpose of a lot of people's day is drink first, football as a secondary passing thought. Such is modern society. You see it all around me in people's behaviour, and especially when we're not playing well and losing, it becomes fairly obvious the ones who are inebriated. And it's never more pronounced than at half time when they have to get away on 30 minutes for their next drink (despite there being 7 minutes of injury time, meaning they miss even more of the game, and players are playing for even longer in front of a half empty stadium). And then again on 80 minutes you hear "haway shall we go get a pint" and it all happens again. You can't tell me it's not drink related as i see and hear it with my own eyes and ears. The fact people can't wait an extra 15 minutes at the end of each half before their next fix will always be a mystery to me, and that's not mentioning those who can't go 90 minutes without a vape.

Usually it irritates me when people start leaving early but our last 3 home league games have been appalling to watch. Sterile, pedestrian and boring. Almost like we’ve become spectators at our own game

I'm a season ticket holder in the North Stand, when Fulham scored their third goal their fans were singing is this a fire drill, I was raging that's exactly how it looked as our fans exited in their droves, were better than that, we were poor yesterday but this team deserve a bit better than that on their efforts this season.

Poor yesterday, people leaving before the 90 minutes when we knew there would be a lot of injury time. I know everybody is different, but with the injury time people were leaving 10 - 12 minutes before the end of the game.
