Ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous but good. It’s like Primus meets King Gizzard meets Mr Blobby.

How am I supposed to go about living my life after watching that :lol:
 

Some of my recent highlights, not yet mentioned on the thread (beyond the new release list) include Shake Stew (who you'll love if you like Ethiopian jazz flecked with psychedelia and played by Scandis), Clementine March (Stereolab gone a bit moreeindiepop), The Just Joans (Glasgow indiepop lives!), The Studio 68 (psychedelic soul), Mandy, Indiana (yelping bleepery with tunes) and Sky Valley Mistress (a bit goth, a bit rock, a bit Spiritualized if Jason Pierce was a lady).

Aside from that, Cardinals are interesting (sound like the Strokes with an accordian).

There are new releases on Friday from Baby Keem, Hen Ogledd, Hilary Duff, Leigh-Anne, Megan Moroney, Mumford & Sons, New Found Glory, Peaches, Jeffrey Martin, Midori Hirano, The Band Of Heathens, Apparat, Isabel Pine, Marielle V Jakobsons and Altin Gun.

I took a screenshot of your post and intend to check a few or more of these out probably starting with Clementine March saying as you name checked Stereolab.
I've missed your round ups of the week's new releases.

I don't have time to do them as much as anything. Will try to post about highlights regularly though. Greazy Alice still my favourite of the year.

Looking forward to Hen Ogledd. I have it pre-ordered, something I'm doing less than ever. Usually stream first then decide if I'm buying these days.
Also looking forward to an album from Phew & Danielle De Picciotto. Saw Phew last year and have been trawling through her old stuff since so nice to get something new.

I have listened to the new U2 EP and there are some good songs on it. The problem is obviously Bono who feels like every line has to be the enlightened pronoucements of a prophet. The songs, as I understand, are about the shootings by ICE in the US, the murder in Iran of a young girl by the morality police and persecution of Jews. Intersesting topics when a certain sector of society is only interested in talking about Palestine. However, I can't help feel that is wasted as the world has decided that U2 are no longer relevant (that probably ended in about 1990) and that Bono is a knob. However, as there is so much dross released these days and we wade through the bland record company projects dressed up as singer-songwriters it is worth giving U2 a fair listen.

Fair enough. U2 were a great band from about 82-88 or so and did some stuff that was decent in the '90s but became increasingly bland as time went on. Because Bono grates on people it adds to how dismissive people are about U2 but, if you listen to him, his heart is in the right place and many a time he has admitted he comes across as a knob. These new songs are actually pretty good in the main and certainly the best they've done for decades (not that I listened to last few records they released). We are all guilty of unconcious bias and, especially on this thread, we are capable of a bit of musical snobbery but I approached this new EP with an open mind and was pleasantly surprised. Last year I listened to new albums by both Pulp and Suede which were in many top ten lists and found them quite tired re-treads of their 'glory years'. But, of course, they have not yet succumbed to the dangers of musical snobbery, unlike U2 (or Coldplay for that matter) who are dismissed by people before even listening to the music.

Fair enough. I genuinely don't know about his tax affairs but I do believe he has done stuff which is admirable such as his role in cancelling African (and other poor paces) debt. It also raises the issue of judging 'the art not the artist'. For example, I think you have said you won't listen to Ryan Adams due to his various misdemeanours which is totally understandable. But do you listen to Bowie, Iggy Pop or Jimmy Page? It is a matter of record that they all had sex with underage persons, which in our country means rape. I'm certainly not having a go at you but suggesting that we all turn a blind eye when it suits us.

I listened to the All New Rock playlist on Spotify and came across a band called Brigitte Calls Me Baby. Their latest song is very good and first album released in 2024 is brilliant. Strong Smiths and Elvis vibes from the lead singer.
