Rightmove Voyeurism

I like modern houses like this. Australia and the States seem to be littered with them, but they are a real rarity in the UK. I don't think this is the best designed or executed one I've seen for that kid of price though.

Also, how much would you need to drink to justify a permanent triple beer tap in the kitchen? Even if you're buying it in polypins, that's still 36 pints a barrel. It would be rank by the time you got through it all.

Why do people build gigantic mansions that look exactly like scaled up 1980s Barratt homes?

I think in general people in the UK still prefer more traditional architecture, ie: would rather live in a faux georgian/victorian manor than a house built with contemporary architectural design (could be wrong)
It was similar here where up to about 15 years ago they were still building homes with older architectural styles but now most new homes are in a very contemporary style.

mind, there are lots of older style houses here (built around 100 years ago) that have been renovated into outstanding, contemporary homes but kept their 'charm'.

No floor plan either.
Yep, its just basic stuff like that, especially for this house that looks like 90% of the rooms will just be squares or a rectangle. If it was £100k I'd understand but £2.5m and nothing more than the basics, I'd be going mental if I paid somebody for that advert.

There's definitely a fetishisation of Victorian, Georgian and Edwardian architecture in the UK and an obsession with "period features", but another big factor is that the weather is so minging it is harder to have flat or shallow pitch roofs here too.

My friends neighbours house recently went up for sale.

Lovely house.

Mates wifes parents/my teacher lived there.
They were burgled in broad daylight.
Nice house but bordered by some absolute shitholes, makes it a bizzare area.
Too much grey but it's very well finished. The parquet flooring is lovely. Lot of house for the money I'd say.
You’d piss yerself at the value here. Mates buying near Wycombe and paying trebble our prices.

Lad I used to work with just bought a house near Corbridge. Absolute palace. Works 2 days a week in London. Think he paid 1.2

'Offers over £1.1 million.'

I would only value that at half the price. I used to life in the shitty part of that postcode. Careful photos does not reveal it is opposite a comprehensive school, and a nightmare to get out the road on a morning. There are a couple or retail outlets and you are right onto Tadcaster road, probably the most congested road into York and gridlocked on a race day. The local pubs are party tourist pubs, first drink of the stag/hen night before they go up Miklegate and you are a few hundred meters from the east coast mainline thundering past.

This was £100k cheaper

I stuck it on because it's claimed to be the most overpriced house in the UK. The seller is the head teacher of The Mount School.

I know the area pretty well too. Snogged a girl or two from the Mount in those streets in my school days.

I've lusted after this one for a while and can't believe it hasn't sold. Beautiful building, the right location, tons of mystery/history. Loads of outbuildings ripe for other use. The current bathroom configuration needs some attention and you have to accept you've got two massive rooms downstairs (and nowt else) but what a unique and lovely home in Co Durham.

Good lord:eek:

“ideal for those looking to take on a rewarding project” 😂

Sold STC at that price too.

It’s in a prime spot though. Easy walk into the city. Good local primary school. Plenty of bars, restaurants and shops along North St.

Got mates who bought in that area 20 years ago before prices went mental, then moved to the burbs with barely a mortgage.
