Early leavers and final whistle on Sunday

That’s my question mate, not a great look to whom? The players seem happy enough and the fans leave (at the end) with smiles on their faces.
No-one could accuse our core fanbase of not being loyal as there are only a handful of clubs in this country who would have gotten the crowds we did for four years in the third tier and with those clowns running the show.
 

Staying away from all the emotion of this, how it makes some people feel, how we think it's viewed by the players or anybody else - I just can't imagine ever walking out of a football ground early unless I was seriously pissed off with the performance.

It's a massive effort to go to the match, and I'm grateful for every supporter there. It's a massive cost too. I just don't know how to reconcile somebody being motivated enough to make the effort to go, but not have the motivation to stay until the end.
 
Am not really getting the argument that fans are duty bound to stay till the very end and show gratitude to pro footballers. That's the sort of approach we take for service personnel or healthcare workers

Are Sunderland unique in having a sizable online presence of fans who feel the need to slag off their fellow fans every week? Or insist that people who make their own decisions should feel guilty

As for the OP, his rambling on the match thread about fans was getting lost in traffic hence this thread. not even his first on the topic seemingly

Tried my best to explain, PL games are broadcast world wide. I don’t think it’s a great look or good optics in showing the best SAFC / or our fanbase can be with 15/20k left at the FT whistle.

Thankfully, it’s an issue the club also acknowledge and more needs to be done to understand why it happens and address the issue.

Although that sits with us as supporters in the choice we make to back the lads and show our appreciation at FT

It’s not just online marra, those I attend with and sit near me get annoyed with folk leaving early and standing in they way / blocking our view on their way out.

The amount of times folk stand in the gangway after getting up to leave early only to stop when something looks like happening is frustrating

What a weird thing to say.
It's not embarrassing, simply because nobody needs an 'excuse' for what they want to do with their own time.
It's not a job - people don't have to clock in or out.

Grown adults thinking they have the right to dictate how people spend their own time is the embarrassing (and really weird) thing.

I don’t really see anyone “dictating” what people should or shouldn’t do tbf.

It’s a fair and reasonable question to ask why thousands chose to leave the match before the final whistle.

If I was at the cinema or theatre (not that it’s my cup of tea) and loads of folk stood up and walked out before the end, its perfectly natural to think “why are they leaving before the end of the show?! “

By all means think it. But what people choose to do is absolutely their right and absolutely nothing to do with you.

It’s entirely their choice, and has nothing to do with me what individual choices folk make.

However, it’s terrible support in not bothering to stay an extra 10 mins or so to show appreciation for the players efforts (unless their is a genuine need to be back home early)

As pointed out earlier in the thread, it’s also contradictory how many more people have been in the ground at FT for big games on an evening.

Surely the same issues exist in transport or getting away from the ground regardless of opposition or occasion?

Ive posted a new topic on it. Its bizzare.
Hopefully next season the club will contact anyone under 65 who doesnt scan in for 90% of home games and ask wth is going on.
 
It's bloody annoying, trying to pay attention to the lads who give it their all to the last minute and a stream of bores have to get past you so they can have a ten minute headstart home.

No one here can come up with a defence better than "grown adults can do what they want" its pathetic.
 
Took me an hour and a half to get back to ryhope like and I left about 30 seconds after the whistle.
 
We (son and 2 grandchildren) left the North Stand as the board showing the extra 4 minutes was held up. I dropped them off at home in Bishop Auckland at 11.50. One of my other sons got home with his girlfriend 10 minutes earlier than this.

Exactly. He didn’t gain the attention he craved last night so, let’s wait til tonight and start another, guaranteeing replies.
 
Yet nowt gets mentioned about people leaving 10 minutes before half time and getting back 10 mins after because they can’t put down a pint
