Hume Hybrid Role

Check back on the comments, a moan of posters have been after him for months. Urging the inclusion of a player who was after a move on f***ing loan ahead of a lad who gives his all every game regardless of where he's asked to play. Thankfully Regis knows what he brings to the side and how important he is for us right now. He's 23 years old and our skipper for a reason.

Love it!

Did you see Hume and Le Fee on several free kicks chatting together, weighing up the options? Showing mutual respect.
Hume is not the finished article but his development and progress from a young lad that cost 175,000? from Glentoran has been incredible.
Phenomenal.
He's 23 and has already captained his country.
Let him grow.
He could end up a legend.

What would you say he brings to the team in this hybrid role?
Same as he does wherever he plays, he's a natural defender, a warrior who can even make a fist of a new role that allows him to push forward whilst also covering for our more attacking full back. He ran the length of the pitch tonight to snuff out a counter attack, even Sky noticed it and I'd wager Nordi would be one of the first to acknowledge his contribution. Gary Neville wasn't Man Utd's "best footballer" but he kept his place for a reason. Oh, and while I'm here I'd wager there isn't a player in our side who has cleared, or blocked more goal attempts in our six yard box or off the line. You think Regis, who knows a lot more than you about the game and our squad, plays him out of some misguided form of sentiment?

Regis who knows a lot more than me got it horribly wrong against West Ham.

Hume is only ever looking to pass the ball backwards as evidenced when Xhaka has rollicked him a few times on the pitch when he had the opportunity to go forward.

His freekicks, one or two tonight were good, delivered into good areas at a decent pace, a few were just terrible.

He doesn’t offer anything going forward for me. RLB being a very defensive coach probably likes this.

In footballing quality, for me he isn’t in the same class as Geertruide.

I would keep him solely as cover for Mukiele, who wasn’t great tonight either tbh. However he is a better fullback than Hume.

f***ing Hell….Your poster name is spot on. You are spouting shite.

Trai has been superb this season the concern is where he was being played. He isnt a centre mid and we got away with him essentially playing as right winger today

Agreed hes not a centre mid. Seeing Burnley fans commenting how hard we are to attack at Home and understanding why we are so good. Hume played RW (not CM), but I see RLBs vision. Down our right you have to beat Hume then Mukiele with Diarra/Sadiki pressing. Down our left you have to beat Talbi (workhorse btw) then Reinildo and Le Fee/Sadiki pressing. Ballard and Alderete if you want to play long, good luck. It was so solid today and Hume played very very well in a weird RWB/RW/CM hybrid. Thought Hume was excellent - long term we need a proper RW but think the last two home performances Hume has been a big part of tactically dominating the oppo in a mid block. He was everywhere down that right.

Read that Hume has our most minutes for outfield player this season which says it all as RLB has proven he hands out no favours on sentiment.

😂 you really got it horribly wrong mate,
Take your blinkers off and watch game again with an open mind, yes a few misplaced passes from Hume but overall it was a very good performance, he was involved in a lot of the good stuff we did, some of his free kicks were bang on the money.
When we play well, Hume is normally in the thick of it doing a lot of the donkey work.

Spot on, when we have played well this season Hume is up there with anyone doing the hard work breaking up play.
To win at this level you need a solid defensive system and players to see it through.
RLB has them playing it to perfection.
It’s no coincidence only Man City and Arsenal have conceded less.
Like it or not Hume is a key part of the team and if he starts adding a few goals to his game what a player this lad will be .

He’s doing a job . people are going way over board saying he had a good game can’t wait to get a right winger out there
No, you’re the one going overboard.

He was covering RW, RB and the middle of the pitch at times last night. He wasn’t just playing 1 position,

Burnley were utter wank, but Hume had a very good game; and if you actually understood football you’d be able to see that.

I admire your certainty. You talk with authority and self confidence. Sadly, your opinions and knowledge of football are mostly tripe.

Football is not just about "going forward". We have others who do that. Hume adds balance and selflessness that provides balance in the team. If you watch the game rather than just the ball, you would see.

Or as a wiser man than me once said:

"What do you do during 87 minutes when you do not have the ball? That is what determines whether you're a good player or not” – Johan Cruyff.

He’s doing a job we need to get a winger that can operate going both ways not juts covering people who can chip in with a few goals
