I've thought of getting an early train down just to experience the carnage on the return journey back but realise I'll just be adding to the problem.

Somebody wants to invite that Lewis Atkinson MP fella to endure the journey up one Saturday. He's canny as a constituency MP for getting things done.

I've given up trying to get a train back within 2 hours of the game. I just hang around for a few beers now. On a 6 carriage York-Thornaby TPE right now but then it's probably 2 carriages to Sunderland. Train will be full before we leave Thornaby.
 
Train times were different yesterday, I usually get train from Billingham at 59 mins past the hour, yesterday was 12 mins past hour.
Got 12:12, busy but got a seat with table, 7:00pm train back again, busy but not too bad

A southerner complaining about the crap train offering up North! If he traveled further north, he’d have been even more annoyed by the offering!
22:06 is the latest train out of Sunderland tomorrow night that will get you to Thornaby

Zero chance of making that if there is additional time added on at the match

If you stay until the end of the Liverpool game, (it's an 8:15pm kick off, and with injury time usually added on, it'll finish after 10pm) so that will be the only option, if you're planning on getting the train back to H/pool, after the game.

Got this train after cov playoff game which I’d imagine finished later than the Liverpool game will and from what I recall was ok, but a bit of a rush to get to.
