That the deals basically done. That it's all about us getting the replacement (which you presume is nearly done too). Rumour is the compo is only 3m and we want a central midfielder as our replacement.

Having read a few articles now online regards Geertruida potential move to Liverpool it would seem it is only as a loan option and not t= buy which I believe is what was on the table here. It would seem an odd one from his parent clubs point of vixen if the deal they currently have only from to a loan.

People make too much of this imo. He's a professional footballer and doesn't seem to be a dick. If we have shown we are trying to make it work but then can't get a replacement in and we need him then I'm sure he will get his head down and carry on. I'm assuming he was happy enough before this option unexpectedly opened up for him, and if so, he will get over it.

The club won't let him go if it's going to screw us. If we've known about this for awhile, which I assume we have, then we will have a few good options lined up. If we can't land what we think we need, he will stay here.

Liverpool take over the loan. Talk of perhaps a 3/4m payment to us

Downie says we want a versatile defender in but no names as of now

He’s the best player we’d have on the bench in a fully fit squad.
It’s about depth not just first 11. He’s better than Hume IMO.

Plus we have Cirkin back and Reinildo has just played centre half for Mozambique throughout afcon. In general, back four won’t rotate and won’t get subbed. That’s true of Xhaka too, but he’s currently a single point of failure. Ideally we get a defender and midfielder in, but a player who can cover for Granit as well as alongside him was already on the agenda for us anyway.

He hasn't been though. Not for us. Hume had the shirt first, has had a generally good season at right back, and when Geertruida has had the odd opportunity at right back, he hasn't done enough to force his way in.

Geertruida is an excellent squad player to have, I expected him to establish himself in the first team, but I've not seen much to suggest he's going to be a class right back at Premier League level.

Good player, but we're never going to be buying £20m, £80k+ a week depth players. Not a long term fit for a club like us currently.
