Geertruida

Kind of odd we are doing this primarily for our right back position then.

Interesting he was captain for Slot at Feyenoord
He played RB for Slot at Feyenoord. He’s versatile and can “invert” into CM if that’s something you guys require when in settled play

I think if you asked him his position he’d say RB

He’s very much a “Slot” guy I think and he’ll trust him to do his job

A bit like Le Fee for us, he’s clearly a Le Bris man

Can anyone give a short description of the type of player he is? We are clearly wanting him to primarily play at RB as we have Bradley out for the season and Frimpong is injured too.

We will give you Danns as a sweetener don't you guys worry 😆😉
He’s not starting ahead of any of our current options at RB, CB or midfield, which if you asked me last year would be the case I’d have laughed my head off.

His versatility is a strength and a weakness. That said if you don’t have anyone that can play RB he’ll be absolutely fine for you. He’s a Dutch international and goes about his business effectively. Very steady.

Think he will do a job for you wherever he plays probably more of a James Milner type than a standout player in any position it’s a smart move for you really covers 3 areas you need

I mean tbh we haven’t really seen him have a run in the team he could be amazing but we really don’t know

Geetruida or no Geetruida I don't want to see Hume in a hybrid role. Just play Diarra in that right of centre pushing on role he was bought to do.
He’s had far more excellent games at hybrid rb/rm than poor ones imo. Liverpool away and palace at home stand out to my mind. There’ll be others too.

No you didn’t. You posted twice about o9 without any prompting or quoting people about not needing another defender in
It’s fair to bring Luke into the conversation on this thread like. He’d be the player getting geertruidas minutes and I don’t think it’s controversial to say that’s a decent drop in quality.

It’s hard to give you a review give the chasm in expectations between our two clubs. For Sunderland, he’d be one of the best right backs we’ve had in the premier league era. I’d argue second best to mukiele. He’d also likely be in the conversation for centre back and centre mid to be honest. Comfortable on the ball, reads the game well, some good passing (see our winner at Stamford bridge).

His biggest strength is his versatility. I think his level is somewhere between our clubs. He’s a good player but not elite level. Not big enough for centre back, not good enough going forward for right back, not mobile enough for centre midfield I’d argue at the very top of the game.

We've been playing Szoboszlai, Endo and Jones at RB so this sounds like a huge improvement!

Plus this season I don't think theres been much between us, so if he has been good for you guys he will be good for us hopefully. If the deal happens.

He's never going to sign for us. He probably arrived thinking he would be a starter and we have mainly shoved him on for 10 minutes at the end.

I imagine he can't wait to get away.
He’s our 11th most used player - despite joining on deadline day and not playing much for the last month. He’s done fine for minutes.

On earlier posts, which i made because hes not good enough. You can guarantee people will be saying he can step yup to cover geertruida.
I can’t be arsed to debate it like. You’ve singled the lad out without any prompting on several occasions. This thread is about gurt and replacements, not about o9. Let’s just leave it at that as it’ll just derail the thread.

I don’t think it is either. But post after post about the same player and the same poster isn’t needed like.

Yes and o'nien is part of the conversation about replacements whether you like it or not.

Hume has a huge game ahead tomorrow, that maybe one of the worst half’s of football I’ve seen a Sunderland player have the other week for a very long time. Reggie needs to let him concentrate on his strongest position if he’s playing him he will be wanting to put it right and doesn’t need another hybrid position to concentrate on. Ideally we will be putting square pegs in square holes on Monday to get us back on track. If this is true then gurty won’t be in the squad so hope we don’t do the role he played at West Ham. Wouldn’t be fair on Hume.
Agree totally if he’s asking him to also cover inside. Disagree if he’s just being asked to play on the right. He’s proven multiple times he can do that job very well indeed this season.

We would have to agree to ending his loan for the move to Liverpool to then go through. What an opportunity for the lad and if we don’t want to play him we can’t really hold him back.

A shame but it’s a clear wake up that other clubs will come in for our players especially in the summer. If we stand still and don’t continue to show ambition then more will wish to leave.
