F1 2026


The McLaren has weird barge boards things in the photos.


Located ahead of the side pods. I would not be surprised in the slightest if that is a deliberate mis direction to get the other teams running to the wind tunnel back at base.

Adrian Newey just smiled and stroked his white cat!
 
Loved watching the pre-season testing in Barcelona on YouTube. I think this could be a great season. Nothing sold me on getting into it before now. The too little success of Ferrari, the too much success of RBR, team like Aston, Alpine, Haas and others failing to break the dominance of Red Bull. The only thing that might have lured me in was McLaren did well I see. But even then they are RBR by another name. It's just replacing one team that wins every race with another. A season should not be about setting out a list of races for one team to win. Others need to win races too. F1 is the only series in motorsport where one team wins virtually every one. Lewis signing for Ferrari was the only thing that got my head turning but the longer time went on and there was no Ferrari at the top of the podium the less interested I got.

But 2026 could be a brilliant one. TWO new teams. Lots of young talent being given a chance. Barcelona was just a learning curve for the teams that did run. Getting data, learning about it's handling etc I assume. No car went fast because it was not about pace and getting the cars up to a competitive level. It was so unimportant to actual getting pace out of the cars that Williams even didn't run. Ferrari didn't even go.

Ferrari were there I think. It’s a 5 day test and the teams can pick three days on which to run.

Williams car is not ready so they are not there and McLaren did not run on day 1 (Monday) to continue to work on development. McLaren are expected to turn up this week.
 
Didn't realise Alpine were out yesterday!

Ferrari and Red Bull on track now, Merc Audi Cadi Alpi and Haas will not run today.

I missed it yesterday but Sky are doing a testing review show with Ted at 7pm (YouTube) and 9pm (SSF1) this week.

Mind you the greatest thing that will lure me in and pique my interest is the new tech regs I have only just heard about today. There is a YouTube clip that explains the new regulations.

Mind well and truly blown!! No wonder so many teams are to obsessed with wanting to get it right!! The new dimensions and weight. The new aero design alone has a myriad of changes. Oy has simpler front and rear wing with fewer elements with the front wing narrower but the sides are open to greater design. The rear will seem to rely on the lower beam underneath more. A new thing called "Active aero" which allows the driver to adjust both in key areas. This will open up greater opportunities for breaking and overtaking. Different race modes. I have barely got started. Its all gonna be brilliant.

Looks like the weather forecast in Barca isn't much better than here - ie shite! Think today might be a bit of a write off.

The new aero design alone is something that will make racing more competitive. Lighter, smaller, narrower SWB cars with some elements done away with like the beam above the diffuser and the wheel arch, and better additions like longer and bigger diffuser, flatter floors and higher ride height, and simpler adjustable rear and front wing will put the “racing” back into “racing drivers” and make them more like the racing drivers of old where they were thinking about their strategy and how to attack and defend. Then theirs the boost and overtake mode!

Some series have a terrific diversity in the entries like WEC whilst having of course brilliant racing cars. But the cars in F1 can achieve parity if it has made positive changes in aero design or engine efficiency

Lawson (I think) said yesterday he's enjoying learning about the car and feels like he's more engaged in driving which is a good thing...see who's actually got the talent.

i remember alonso talking about the ground effects cars being so highly strung that if you drove them at 100% you'd never get the quickest lap times, that there was a sweet spot around 90% of total performance where they went quicker (which was counterintuitive to him).
